But to be honest, I really haven't noticed the federal government trying to convince me to stay home and not work.

You aren't on a plethora of social programs, I take it.

The tiered system (removing lump sums of benefits if your income hits a tier instead of a strict 1:1 swap on total benefit dollars) and the bonuses for irresponsible behavior (being a single parent, having more kids than you can afford to care for without government assistance, etc) are not verbatim demands to stay home and not work but they can eventually combine to become per se demands.

And before anyone chimes in, no I don't think they were designed this way to purposely keep people on them (at least not initially), but rather they were designed with a rose-colored view of human nature and poverty but then co-opted to varying extents over the proceeding decades.

Yes by all means, let's legalize something that will drive more people to stay home and not work, not be a productive member of society, or give a shite about anything.

Bro I took 70mg of Addy daily and drank a fifth every other night. Started smoking six months ago and quit addy and drinking. Haven't had a drink in that timeframe and smoking daily. Most productive I've ever been and most happy.

Never smoked previously, but the fact that it's illegal while most of these controlled substances and alcohol are out there is laughable.

Should I go fish at my camp on the river this weekend or should I go shoot guns on my acreage?

I’ll let you decide what I get high and do this weekend ?

Amen brother. I'm drinking a beer and smoking a bowl. I handle my business just fine as a retired First Sergeant who started and sold 2 small businesses, a guy who made a bunch of fortunate real estate investments and has passive income. I also own and operate a small cattle farm in Oklahoma (that Schedule F is nice) and I'm retired and 47.

But alas, I suffer from reefer madness.

In my line of work that's called Tuesday. People can enjoy things and still maintain a productive lifestyle.

Honestly all drugs should be legal. Want to smoke weed go for it. Some little crack, meth, who cares.

Then why stop at weed? Crack and meth should be legal as well by this standard.

There is a clear line between a plant and street drugs.

Not to some people. In any event, you didn’t really mean this:

There doesn't need to be any argument other than the fact that consenting adults should be allowed to do as they please with their own bodies and in their own time.

Confusing comment.

Federal government being involved will mean regulation.

That won't raise profits of private companies, it will lower them.

Exactly. The stoner brigade loves to say, "make it legal and then just tax the shite out of it." Why? Why legalize something if you are going to give the government a chunk of the proceeds? What did the government do to generate profit for said company?

I would argue that manufacture and proliferation of street drugs and their addictive properties do not restrict the activity to "their own bodies", etc.

But yea, of course it is not semantically concrete as a one-sentence message board post. But I'm willing to be you know exactly what I meant by it, and the general premise stands. There is a line between activities that inherently endanger the user and/or others and those that don't. Weed and gambling are on one side. Crack, meth, heroin, etc. are clearly on the other.

My weed stock is 67% down from a year ago. So much for my prediction of a pandemic making weed sales surge. Didn't figure on the open boarder supplying cheap weed to all you potheads.

On another note, my prediction the Biden would have us in conflicts around the world and oil/gas would go through the roof has my Haliburton up 83% and LNG stock up 147%

Too bad I didn't throw serious money at those two.

I guess you’d lose because I took it at face value. There are plenty of people who think your paragraph stands as-is and you didn’t qualify it with any concerns about societal impact, etc.

Or poppies? To me the deciding factor would involve a pragmatic look at the impact on society, not whether it grows out of the ground or not. Of course we’re going to regulate “social vices”, but the adult conversation involves figuring out which ones.

Heroin isn't illegal solely because of the cotton industry and the hand-wringing of the religious right , which is the case with marijuana.

This is the biggest problem with our welfare system, imo, unintended consequences of programs started with good intention - like aid to mother's with dependent children.

I say just give them commodities like flour, butter, sugar, etc..., that they can cook themselves. I've peered into the shopping carts of people paying with EBT cards - shite I wouldn't even feed to the dogs.

Dude, you from the 1960’s or something? I smoke almost every day and I am none of those things you mentioned. It’s going to be ok.
