given the conditions of the water and that it happened at night, they were unlikely to find his/her body until the next morning.. then the identification process, then notifying NOK.. that was probably completed about 24 hours ago.. give or take a couple of hours..
I expect that we will hear today sometime..

It would have leaked. shite, the media almost certainly knows the pilot's name. And it still doesnt explain Trump's unusually angry response.
Cmon man. Its naive to give these people the benefit of the doubt anymore. More often than not, when something like this happens, its not a good look for someone important.
I hope I'm wrong.

Also a lot of times the family know before the CNO gets there. In this case there are only so many pilots in that battalion. If a family gets on the road or is not at their home of record it delays the official notification.
There are a lot of times as a CNO where you go to the HOR and the NOK is not there and then it's a chase of sorts.

They are hoping to wait out public interest.
Sadly people have very short attention spans and if you have news you don't want much attention to, simply dump it at a later date when interested has waned.

I know the name. A lot of people in the Army and the media all know the name. Reputable media don't play games on these because they know they'll be blackballed for any future coverage.

My guess is they are doing a deep dive into his/her history and the social media footprint to see if there is anything there. Once the name gets out, it makes it more difficult to obtain with all the traffic that gets directed to those sites or allows hackers to get ahead of the investigation.

And if there was something else to the story, I believe someone would leak it in order to be the first to break the news.. everything is pointing at this just being a horrible, tragic accident that will impact a lot of lives..

It's a bad look for the Army when you knock a civilian airliner out of the sky during a training flight. Bad look is an understatement.
As far as the pilot they had plenty of experience and had met the same training gates / qualifications as every other pilot in that position.

Well they have the rest of their life to mourn. The families of the other 66 fatalities are already morning. I'd imagine they would want some answers and transparency as to who is responsible for the accident. I'd bet the farm that answer has already been found, just not exposed yet for whatever reasonings.

It's just procedural. NOK doesn't happen before 5 am either. So the accident was Wednesday night. Once the identities were confirmed the CNO teams launched Thursday.
Today is Friday. Names will officially be out.
