This is just like the tariffs monsters hiding under your bed. Tariffs have always been a thing. The GOP, aka conservatives, pushed for them throughout our history as a nation.

I would argue that most of the ultra MAGA base is not conservative but rather reactionary populist. These folks are ok with burning down the system if they are not in charge. I don't think Trump is very conservative. On some issues, he is, but most he is either a centrist liberal or reactionary populist. He def not a fiscal conservative and he loves to use government or grow government if it helps him out. Most of the MAGA base are just reactions to the far left norming of nearly all of our institutions. Cause and effect. Conservatives are the loneliest people right now in terms of having a voice or access to power.
