"We can't let the terrorists win" - remember that old saying. Did we let them win?

If my memory serves me correctly it was mainly in reference to telling people to go about their normal lives and not live in fear. Perhaps mainly in an effort to boost the economy. A reclusive population is obviously not good for the economy.

But if we sit with that question for a moment and define what would constitute "the terrorists winning" you could make some uncomfortable arguments that they did in fact win.

Some things revolving around the issue are simply indisputably bad for the American populace: massive increase in debt held by the public. Massive expansion of the surveillance state that has spanned across both parties and shows no signs of slowing down.

So did the terrorists win? I suppose that depends largely on how you personally frame what winning or losing looks like to the terrorists.

I think you might be missing the point here

The terrorists didn't win because some muslims live here

If they won it's because what the federal government did in response

The patriot act is letting them win by trading freedoms for “safety” from the government.

Actual winning would be minimizing immigration with areas that generate terrorists and eliminating the terror organizations where they exist as Trump did effectively in his first term.

The terrorists won by immigrating here.

Why aren't we bombarded with constant terror attacks then?

George W was the first one I ever heard say "We do not negotiate with terrorists"

Hence, "the call is coming from inside the house".

Why would they do that when our leaders are so welcoming?

They have NCY and Minnesota.

They don’t need to.

Slowly building up their numbers, and will elect themselves to power and influence. Libertarians will cheer them on.

We are all terrorists. Some are just better at it. You do not sound too convincing. Are you fetal now?

I'm much more concerned with additional trillions in debt and the growth of the surveillance state are more pressing issues than a Muslim guy being mayor of NYC

Am I the only one that expected this thread to actually go somewhere, but it didn't?

NYC elected an Islamic Jihadist. Trump is bending the knee to Iran. So yeah....

Seems like everyone is more obsessed with the abstract irrational fears than the actual problems that spawned from our war on terror.

Pretty typical. Don't worry about the surveillance state that continues to expand or the additional trillions in debt. But be very afraid that some muslims live here.

Muslims in government drafted and signed the patriot act?
