I think you’re close.
But White House correspondents are attracted to the field for various reasons and also are not insecure about their appearance because they know they will inevitably be featured/shown on camera.
It attracts pretty/handsome people who often get promoted by their news organizations because they look good.

in custody awaiting trial. That was only 3 months ago - I guess this was the rescheduled event that didn't happen due to that.

Sitting around 4-5 months a year during winter and lazy AF the whole year will do that. Those Mideast citizens will become fat too before long
