I made this change 4 years ago with a mom and pop pharmacy when I moved to my new home. I Couldn’t be happier with them and so glad I do not have to go to a retail pharmacy or Walmart any longer.
We use the local mom and pop as much as possible. For everything else, we use our Publix pharmacy. I feel for folks who don’t have a good Publix nearby.

Lot of good points in these replys but big picture this country is just over stored so to speak. They just got to damn big and put stores in marginal areas just to say they had a footprint-just like many other retail chains. Now it's about profitability and I think these 700 are just the beginning.

Good! We need to go back to mom and pop pharmacy’s and a lot of other things!
I use Prescriptions 2 Geaux here in Baton Rouge as much as I can.

I think, Amazon, is probably cutting into most retail. Pharmacies used to make money selling OTC medication/supplements and knick-knacks. Now that stuff is cheaper and more conveniently purchased online.
The death of brick and mortar will be a reality as the market consolidates around a handful of merchants.

I wonder if one of those closures will be in Gulfport where there are 2 Walgreens across from each other. To be fair one was a RiteAid before Walgreens acquired the locations in the south. Google maps still has one location listed as a RiteAid, but it is a Walgreens.
What turned me off to Walgreens was that, one medication I was taking was costing me 10 dollars a month with insurance, but at Walmart the drug is on their 4 dollar generics list, so with insurance it was free. Once I found that out, it was no more Walgreens for me.

Walgreen's is the first one to say Uncle and start pulling back.
Not really, CVS just got through closing 1000 stores over the past 3 years

When walgreens was first re building out and putting a new store on just about every corner I told people that this company is overbuilding way too much.
In Slidell they went from 1 in the late 90s to 4 stores by 2010. Then CVS and others started popping up. Walgreens was king for a while but I guess it wasn’t sustainable. Was my first job during HS/College… when it was just the one store. Funny, it used to have the feeling of a mom and pop store.

Yep. Macy's is going to close 150 stores over the next 2 years. Know some people at Kohls who say they'll be closing some underperforming stores.

It's like people can't make up their minds. Big corporations are evil, killing local businesses , squeezing peoples budgets; until they start losing money and then suddenly they are good, necessary and champions of capitalism!!
