Eh, I kind of agree but why not just go down to the gun store that still allows 18 year olds to buy guns..
I don't know many people who buy guns at Wal-Mart anyway, must be the poors that do it.

its age discrimination. Clearly a civil rights issue.

Would you argue that senior citizen discounts are also a civil rights issue?
If you're over 65 you should probably have more money than a 20 year old dining in the same establishment. Why does the old dude get the discount?
How far do you want to take this purist stance against businesses operating how they choose? And why do you hate business owners anyway?

What does a discount have to do with a law??

Not this dumb thread again. We had this argument last week. Private business is free to set their own policy. The Constitution only extends to actions by government entities. Unless there is a specific state or federal statute saying they cannot do it, they probably can.
For example, the state can say that only patrons 18 and older can enter drinking establishments, but that doesn't prohibit a bar from raising their requirements to 21 and up.
Age isn't a protected class under the civil rights act except when it comes to hiring/firing, and even then, those protections only apply to discriminating against older employees (i.e. over 40). That's why it's not unconstitutional to have a senior citizen discount at the movies.
Unless there is a stricter state or local statute than the Civil Rights Act (like in the case of the Oregon cake bakers), the business can do pretty much whatever it wants absent very rare circumstances (like it being the only provider in a large area, so it denying a given service is tantamount to that service not being available to anyone. In that case, it may be treated like a utility somewhat).

This is a business move not political. Walmart, Dicks, etc... Can't afford for one of these nut jobs to shoot up a school with a gun/s purchased from them. The fallout would be way worse.

If these people really wanted to make a dent in gun crime they’d stop selling to black people.

Do you think selling the same products at different prices to people based on age wouldn't also fall under your age discrimination umbrella?

Hahaha. Do you really think the the black people that commit shooting crimes are filing the serial numbers off of the guns that they purchased? They are buying stolen guns on the street for $20.
That is why people are naive to think that stricter background checks are going to make a dent into anything.

Maybe they should start engineering hand guns where they can't be shot if you hold them sideways?

No sir.
30% of states has laws ban age discrimination. Connecticut is one of them.
Conn. Gen. Stat. §§46a-64, 81d

It has nothing to do with a discount. Discounts and prices, to my knowledge are not part of any laws.
Age discrimination is in 30% of the nation.

Like I said before, barring a stricter state or local statute, the business can do what it wants.
You are correct that Connecticut has one such stricter statute:
quote:
(2) The provisions of this section with respect to the prohibition of discrimination on the basis of age shall not apply to minors or to special discount or other public or private programs to assist persons sixty years of age and older.
Conn. Gen. Stat. Ann. § 46a-64 (West)
So in Connecticut, businesses resorting to this kind of discrimination would be set up for a big lawsuit.

State laws, city laws...etc, they all come into play. You can not sell a product and refuse to sell to sell it to a legal aged person!
Unless there is a state discrimination law that classifies 18-21 year olds as a protected class, the lawsuit is merit less. There certainly isn't any federal protection in this situation.

Even there, I bet there are exceptions because I'm fairly confident that people under 25 can't rent cars in Connecticut.
