I think if Pence was in the immediate vicinity, we would already know that

I think we do know that he never left the building. Even if it wasn't him back there, there are still the other several hundred members of congress. They clearly weren't letting anyone into that corridor.

From this camera view it was REALLY clear to me that right or wrong, going through that window was not a good idea.

Too bad she didn't have that view herself. Obviously we don't have full context, but there were at least four or five heavily armed police officers milling about on her side of the door, watching as these people attempted to break through. They appear to have given her no warning of the fate that awaited her if she were to cross that threshold and made no effort to restrain anyone in that stairwell.

I don't think anyone was aware of the danger. Was she given a warning by that plain clothed police officer? Also...if that police officer had made himself more visible, would she have tried to jump the barricade?

I’ve been told for years now by the media that unarmed people should never be shot, even when breaking the law.

Precisely the double standard I’m talking about.

Flip this to the protesters the stormed congress to protest the Kavanaugh hearings. Imagine one of them being dropped like this? The legacy press would have been apoplectic and “Trump’s Goon Squad” would have been decried for their fascism.

“Immediate” yes. Not if he was in the process of being evacuated.

I imagine there’s designated fallback zones and “lines in the sand” the secret service defends depending on where in the process of evacuation the president/VP is in the building.

They were probably following a protocol, sadly.

We will likely never know this because the secret service isn’t about to tell us their protocols

Seems they had guns drawn in clear sight.

She was literally the only person even trying to get through the window we’re calling that “leading a mob” now?

What do you call being first in line? She may not have been directing people, but she was the first one to try and climb through the window.

It was a protocol that the Capitol police had no idea existed. I find that hard to believe.

There were literally a dozen cops with rifles in riot gear who didn't seem to think anyone needed to get shot and then this fricker over here just starts popping off rounds... could have just as easily hit the cop that was standing directly behind her. frick that guy.

If this was in your home would the shooter be justified?

That is an illegal shooting. The shooter was not under any threat that required deadly force. The victims did not display a weapon, the shooter shot through TWO doors to kill the victim, and the even had the victim breached that door she still would not have been a lethal threat to the shooter at that time.

The shooter wasn’t letting anyone into that corridor. The 10 other policemen didn’t have any clue.

I don’t. I don’t know why the secret service detail for the VP would tell the capitol police high-level catastrophe protocols- certainly not average doughnut joes.

But who knows? Just speculation on all of our parts. The only thing we know is she ignored their demands to retreat

Because they tend to not do those things when protecting government officials during a riot.

Eh. I don’t like police and I don’t trust them. And incidents like this are exactly why.

The police in the stairwell did. The guy who shot the woman was taking cover just inside a door off to the side. He didn't fully expose himself until just before he shot. We don't know if she could even see that door from where she was. All she (possibly) saw was some random dude walking non-chalantly in the hallway about 30-40 yards distant.
