And for people that don't know this is a "arepa". It's essentially the tortilla of the region. Made of cornmeal.

It's terrible. My wife is Venezuelan, and they eat it every day. I have to put some Cajun Two Step in the mix.

I was traveling around Venezuela in the refinery areas and our guide told us not to eat breakfast at the hotel because we would stop for it. We stopped at a bare pavilion in a corn field. They served Arepas with margarine, a big slice of local cheese, and a coke. There was no menu, and no choice in either beverage or food. But it was surprisingly good. I did miss my morning coffee.

BTW, I think it’s Colombian, but anyone living in NOLA might try the restaurant Mais Arepas near St Charles and Pontchartrain Expressway. Damn good!

Why are you asking? This isn’t about a delicious chicken sandwich.

I have a close friend who was born in Venezuela and is now an American citizen.

She is beyond happy with what happened and her family there are even happier

Yeah not the biggest fan of them by themselves either. Kind of bland. One of my best friends since early teens is American from Colombian parents. He kind of agrees with me, too. They do eat these things every day. It's crazy. It's like each female in the family learns to make them out of the womb. His grandma makes one for breakfast while her coffee is brewing every morning.

Now if there is a good tasting melting cheese to put in them, then they are delicious. If your wife hasn't done that for you, do that. Melts in the center, and are really good. But in a sandwich type deal it's good too.

Ok...I will clarify cause it was late and didn't think my pics thru. The arepa is the tortilla type thing. Not the full sandwich looking pics. Those do look delicious and looking up pics, there were a ton of delicious options. Especially since they love pork in that region, so great options there.

I really don't care for the arepa by themselves as others do. But when they have a good melted cheese in it. But I also don't like corn tortillas, so could be that similarity (not the same though) that makes me not care for them.

Couldn't be happier. They want us to go in and root out the entire government, but that can't happen.
