The Virginia Mathematics Pathways Initiative (VMPI), an equity-focused educational program that would have eliminated all accelerated math courses before 11th grade, is no longer.
The initiative was removed from the Virginia Department of Education's website after newly inaugurated Gov. Glenn Youngkin on Jan. 15 issued Executive Order 1 to, among other things, "restore excellence in education by ending the use of divisive concepts, including Critical Race Theory, in public education."
Asra Nomani, vice president of Strategy and Investigations for Parents Defending Education, a nonprofit with a mission to "reclaim our schools from activists imposing harmful agendas," cheered Youngkin's order in a Monday statement.
"…The Youngkin administration with Superintendent Jillian Balow and Assistant Superintendent Elizabeth Schultz have eliminated the Virginia Math Pathways Initiative, which was going to deny students advanced math in middle school," she said. "This war on merit must end. Our schools must be places for all children to be challenged academically and grow. We expect this is just the first step in rolling back the damage that has been done by the insidious ideology of critical race theory and its destruction of education in the name of ‘equity.’"

The public school teachers are probably intimidated by the content of the accelerated math classes……. the kids that would make it into the classes are probably smarter than them.

Most advanced math courses are filled with students that aren't interested in math. The ones that love math are held back by the retardation of forcing kids to learn something they have no interest in.
Tack on the grade curving, cause now you've funneled all your "high GPA" students into something they have no interest in, and the concept loses what little merit it had left.

The sad part is, they are coming up with the policies 100% because they've given up on blacks.
30 years ago, the lib push was to bring blacks UP in performance. They were willing to throw billions at the problem.

It can be feasibly argued that destroying the ability of blacks to succeed means they are stuck on the Dem plantation. Therefore, destroying everyone else’s chances may perpetuate this with other races and therefore help the Dems be the leader of a nation of fricking idiots.

But, at least in rhetoric, they sold they idea of improving education for blacks.
Today, they're OPENLY SAYING "frick it, blacks can't do this shite"............and blacks STILL vote for them.

I think most of it is based on the misguided notion of 'tabula rasa' or blank slate. There are a lot of people that believe every child comes out of the womb with equal potential.
The reason some children excel is because they have better parents, books, schools, etc. They reject the notion of IQ limitations from birth.
So, equality can only be achieved by ignoring early indicators of inferiority.
The big problem with devaluing merit lies in practical applications. Do you want your surgery done by a doctor who scored a 12 on his ACT before 'finding himself' in a woke medical school?
