Is that why central and south America is littered with Latino countries that have wide open free speech guarantees?

PERFECT example of the point Socrates made. I said something that was undeniably true.
To SDV and those up voting him:
Truthfulness, apparently is a sign of having TDS.

Really curious about this. Since I'm not a white supremacist, why do you keep repeating this to me?
Also Indias average IQ much lower, probably in the 70s or 80s, compared to most other Asian demographics.

I've been called worse than Hitler in this thread. Means I'm winning right?

Is this a debate club?
No. Sometimes, however, there are debates about whether something is true or not. On those occasions, Socrates's observation saves time.

Always...have you ever heard a Progressive complete a thought absent slander and/or profanity? Of course not ..Summertime thundershower puddles in New Orleans possess more depth than the Left side of the aisle

OK. Didn’t exactly answer what I asked. But thanks, I guess.

Good rules.
I am guilty of tossing the "cowardly liar" accusation around too much. Sometimes people are genuinely mistaken.

What about the ones living in the United States? Do you think they fit that same broad distribution?

Now THIS is solid criticism. I didn't research it. I will, now. Thanks.
FWIW, it is a true statement irrespective of it's origin.

No, we've generally been taking the cream of the crop. Still, I will note, there is concern that the same culture that's known for scams is potential falsifying educational documents so its difficult to say with high certainty.

You're correct. Thanks. It IS consistent with Socratic thought, though, and a good tip.
ChatGPT:
The saying commonly attributed to Socrates is:
“When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”
That quotation is not authentic. There is no evidence Socrates ever said it, and fact-checkers have traced it to modern internet circulation rather than to Plato or Xenophon. ?
Politifact API
However, the underlying idea is genuinely very Socratic.
In Plato's Apology, Socrates explicitly discusses his opponents using slander rather than substantive argument. He says that long-standing rumors about him were more dangerous than the formal charges because they had prejudiced the Athenians against him before he ever got a chance to answer them. He calls these people his “slanderers” and says they had been spreading false accusations for years. ?
Socrates Plato +1
One particularly relevant passage is his observation that his opponents had been “speaking about me in a concerted and persuasive way” and had “slandered me vigorously for a long time.” His response is essentially: let's examine the actual claims and see whether they are true. ?
Socrates Plato
There's also an interesting connection to the supposed quote. The original Greek accusation against Socrates included the charge that he was “making the weaker argument stronger.” ? That's probably one reason modern people sometimes associate Socrates with the idea of winning arguments through rhetorical tricks.
Humanitext Reader
So I would distinguish them this way:
? “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.” — not a genuine Socrates quotation.
? Socrates argued that people who could not answer his questioning sometimes resorted to attacks, accusations, and slander. — very much consistent with Apology.
? His fundamental method was to return to the truth of the proposition rather than attack the person making it.
If you're looking for a genuine ancient quotation that conveys “if you have to resort to personal attacks, you've abandoned the argument,” I can find the closest authentic Socrates/Plato passage.

I'm not a left winger. I wasn't accusing anyone of slander. I wasn't referring to Trump.
I was just saying when ANYONE (me included) resorts to personal attacks rather than factual, logical arguments, it's a sign that that person knows they've lost the debate.
