a legitimate firearm business? the NRA, or a government agency that would absolutely conduct the background check for the next purchaser of the gun?

If followed, wouldn't this eliminate the issue "there are no background checks conducted in private sales"

Assuming the law would provide a fair value, no hassle, "here is your money" what would be the negative? What rights have been surrendered?

...I recognize highly valuable fire arms would probably be an issue in terms of determining "value"....

what are other negatives of handling gun sales/ purchases of used guns this way?

I assume when private sales are done, the seller is eager to register the fire arm in the buyers name...?

You won’t get nearly as good of a price.

No, I have never purchased a gun, they are all heirlooms, I assume that law would stop legit heirloom gifting.

There is no such thing as gun registration

I buy and sell on gunbroker, all transactions are handled by FFL

That's kind of why these ideas don't really work as promised. They only work if one volunteers, otherwise the law has no teeth. If I want to sell a firearm privately, then cash and carry. FYI, the average time-to-crime with firearms is about 16 years.

No. I have guns from both grandparents, an uncle, and an inlaw. This would kill passing guns down.

And trading guns with friends would be illegal as well.

I have absolutely no interest in giving our bloated and corrupt shite arse government any more power to abuse.

When deciding to give the government power you should imagine the worse way that power can be used against you and ask yourself if it's worth that risk

Assume the law states inherited guns, you go through a volunteer background check when you register ?" This isn't a sale

but you would need to register them...like a car, you have to register it...if you intend to keep them

or do you disagree with this?

Wow...you are really on to something here! How about we make a law that you can only buy and sell drugs through a doctor too!!!!! This great idea of yours can eliminate the opioid epidemic! I mean, if there is a law against selling drugs no one will do it anymore, problem solved, absolute genius. You should run for office.

Most laws are formed around the basis that criminals will follow them.

You can legislate everything under the sun and probably directly prevent a few murders from criminals who just can't find a black market dealer, but the tradeoff is likely worse.

Make it hard enough to legally own a firearm means law abiding citizens may go without them, resulting in more defenseless homeowners. This is just one example of the government trying to kill a fly with a grenade.

Would anyone be ok with a law mandating that a pre-owned vehicle may only be sold to the government or a gov. approved agency?

A) why would you sell your guns?

2) we should just make murder illegal.

Yep. Build a registration and only law abiding citizens will use it. And when criminals commit more mass murders, the left will be like “what else can we do?”

....and they will conveniently then have a catalog of all legal firearm owners to target.

Well that's just not true at all, ideally there are penalties for being caught with a firearm you didn't purchase legally.

The goal of the law is not to stop the thing you're making illegal 100% of the time.
