There is no way to sneak 10s of thousand from all over Afghanistan in 10 days...they have to start moving everything from the airport a few days before.

Agree 100%. We should be ashamed and bravo for GB for acting like a rational nation state.

Well I agree, but it could get worse if they start shelling they airport. Risk and risk management.

There just isn't really a military solution to this.

This is why leadership matters

We don't have it

Well what I said was just a not so serious thought. Something for consideration. But just to finish it out then they could at least get as many as they could. Maybe in some of the further areas so the people closer could be rescued another way. If it got hot then you are closer to the airport.

“British paratroopers are still running constant patrols…”

Courageous men doing serious work upholding their colors. I believe that our troopers are beside themselves wanting to weigh in. This is the consequence Obama gutting the leadership of the US military he hates. Biden must resign along with his Joint Chiefs.
The Color Sergeant approves.

I think you guys continue to over simplify this, and under estimate the risks.

Joe fricked up, biggest frickup in mylifetime.

There is no easy solution if the new government doesn't play ball.

I think the crux of the current situation comes down to what is the real pull out date.

If it's 8/31 then the US has a huge task to get everyone out.

If it's 9/11 as the Taliban have said, it's still a huge fast job to get everyone out.

If we're going to stay until they are all out, it will work if the Taliban allow it to work. If they choose to, the Taliban can shut down that airport stranding our troops and people.

Everyone saying we should impose our will on the Taliban is failing to grasp the situation. If that runway is shut down, We're surrounded in enemy territory with no logistical support other than what we could airdrop in.

It would take a massive mobilization to put enough troops on the ground to take control of Kabul back from the Taliban. Would Biden be willing to commit to that size escalation? He has sure been adamant about the need to leave. Turning around and putting 30K plus troops and their support on the ground would be a massive reversal.

There has to be a red line somewhere. You cannot abandon American citizens behind enemy lines. That IS the operation. Everything else is already gone. The primary function of our government is to protect this country and its citizens. Idgaf if the Taliban doesn’t like it. You either make another deal or you do what the Brits are doing and you run smaller ops. But you don’t just say oh well bc the Taliban won’t let us. That’s not acceptable and anyone arguing it is is insane.

Agreed, but think 100-200k, and 6+ months to get there. Everyone is dead for sure as well.

Joe fricked up bigly.

This is a pure top down issue. Biden and his cronies are bowing to the Taliban instead of using American strength to turn the table on them. They are actually scared the taliban will start a fire fight with our troops if we ask to do what the brits are doing. Embarrassing

I agree, we have to get those people out, we have a responsibility to get those people out.

No man left behind.

That said, we need to be prepared for what that could mean. The only reason the brits are able to do what they are doing is that the Taliban aren't attacking them. Will they let the American's do the same? If not, how do we get our people out if they can't get to the airport?

This is the biggest blunder on the world stage in a very long time for us. Probably the biggest blunder ever. If Joe can pull out of this with every American accounted for and no bloodshed then he might hold off on the biggest blunder ever. I don’t know though this has been an absolute disaster. Just losing all those weapons and equipment will really hurt us because it will be broken down and gone through by China and Russia for sure. That’s another huge blunder out of this. If we get everyone back it could still be the biggest blunder of all time by itself.

30K at the tip of the spear means roughly 75K behind them using a tooth-to-tail ratio of 2.5 which is what I've read we had in Iraq.
