Bill, serious question, how do we secure the city?

How many troops on the ground would it take to secure a city the size of Kabul that is full of Taliban?

Magic.

Nuke our troops?
Nuke all of our citizens still there?
Nuke the innocent Afghan people caught in the middle?

Good plan.

Yet, that is exactly what the military is saying. The military is telling everyone what is going on, what specific part is wrong?

Sport, he has a point.

If this breaks out into a shooting situation, our troops at the airport are sitting ducks. All of our people in the city are sitting ducks.

I am 10000000000000% in favor of getting every American out of Afghanistan. I believe we have an obligation and responsibility to get our people out. The problem is we don't have many options to do it and we could end up with 2x the body count of 9/11 if this goes sideways.

My concern is Biden won't follow through with the severe punishment part of this because he doesn't have any real military options right now that don't require a massive escalation of power in the country...the very thing he's been babbling about ending.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't, but what do you think the odds of Biden doing that are?

You know the one that Trump agreed to?

You kids think this is a game?
That deal was contingent on the US being out by May 1st? So, didn't Biden already void that agreement?

Yes, there are multiple violations by the United States.

I've been giving a warning, for some unknown reason so.... I'm out.

Good luck guys.

Both sides have violated the agreement.

One part of the agreement that has held up is that no Taliban have attacked US troops in over a year.

We haven't had a casualty in Afghanistan since Feb 2020 I believe.

So you just want to abandon our people? Why don't you call up your buddy Biden and tell him how sorry you are you voted for him.

its a bad scenario, but the Military just said we have F18's flying over Kabul RIGHT NOW. People are making it sound like we dont even have a way to retaliate if it comes to that.

My point being that the "agreement" is no longer binding and shouldn't be referred to when explaining our diplomatic/military actions. If the U.S. is kowtowing to the taliban to avoid a massacre then it's okay to just call it what it is.

Yea, I'm sure we have drones available as well as other air assets like B52's.

The challenge is we don't have many available on short notice and the nearest airbase is a long way off, the nearest carrier is a 2-hour flight away.

We can drop some bombs, fire off a few Hellfire missiles, kill a couple of hundred Taliban and a ton of afghan civilians. But we should be ready to lose a lot of the troops at the airport and watch America's getting dragged through the streets while that is all going down.

We have been conditioned to think the American Military is all-mighty, and it absolutely is when we can use its full capabilities in a combined arms manner. We don't have those capabilities QUICKLY available in Afghanistan now which puts us in a really tough spot.

Cave dwellers smarter > Idiots in this thread

The Taliban's military advantage in this situation comes down to a SINGLE DETAIL...they are willing to kill anyone, at anytime, for any reason. In case you haven't noticed, the US military isn't quite as indiscriminate.

And you call that "smarter". Good grief. I'd choose barbaric as the more appropriate term.

So now the question becomes...how do you deal with them? Do we continue to walk upright while they slink around on their bellies, or do we get in the dirt? Because how many dead Americans are acceptable? You can throw around terms like "agreements" and "doctrines" all you'd like, but there's a harsh reality here - this situation has to be dealt with, in unarguably military terms, or the Biden Admin has to abandon these people. Yeah - it's a shitburger, and someone has to take a bite.

So…. We are in a thread about GB getting people out and gft goes all ape crazy that the us is violating some agreement. And he/she/it wonders why people think they is crazy and stupid.

I’ve asked 4 times in this thread for the GB agreement. There isn’t one. Yet somehow the us thinks it can boss around GB.

Unfortunate truth is our days of telling any country what to do ended a short while ago.
