This is correct.. The US littoral coast extends about 12 miles off of the S. Carolina coast.

Hoft is ridiculous! The thing was shotdown nearly 8mi inside US territorial waters. US naval vessels are on site. How in hell does Hoft think the Chinese will reach the balloon first?
He's getting clicks which is all he's worried about.

Our military is terrible and led by fricking retards.

We can’t get a ship out there 6 miles off the coast of South Carolina? The state where we literally build our naval ships? What in the actual frick

It's in 47 feet of water, hardly deep sea submersable territory.
I'd be more worried about it being covered by shifting sands.

And the Story with link to the Daily Mail:
quote:
The Daily Mail reported:
Concerns have grown that China may reach the wreckage of their downed spy balloon before the US Navy as a salvage vessel won’t be on the scene for days.
US officials confirmed that an F-22 Raptor fighter jet shot down the balloon with a single AIM-9X sidewinder missile at 2.38pm on Saturday, six miles off the coast of South Carolina.
A senior military advisor told Fox News that the debris field was about seven-miles wide, with the depth of the waters estimated at 47 feet.
While multiple Navy and Coast Guard vessels are in the area establishing a security and search perimeter, the senior advisor said an official salvage vessel won’t arrive until a couple of days.
Please point out where a "senior military official" says there are concerns that China will get there before us you stupid frick.
Hint-He doesn't. He says how large the debris field is and that there are military vessels that have established a perimeter.

I mean - do we really think the thing doesn’t contain location devices on the important parts?

Six miles off the coast is in US waters, not international waters. If China has anything in the area trying to recover it, then sink it.
My Lord! A boat load of recreational scuba divers could get out there and recover it faster than what our navy claims it can do. It's supposedly in about 40 to 50 feet of water, well within recreational novice scuba depths. If our navy can't handle that, then we have some severe problems as a nation. (Not that we didn't already know that we have severe issues.)

It being in our waters doesn't mean shite. That's evident.

China was in our air space for how long? We did what? Nothing.

How would it even be possible for them to find it before the US Navy does?
Eh, honestly wouldn't be that impossible. China could have a gps tracker on it and know the exact coordinates. US would only have a couple mile radius and then throw in currents and wind, and who knows.
Given that, they'd have to sneak a boat or submarines in less than 60 ft of water which would be almost impossible.

The comical thing is they could have easily dropped it in any number of locations from Montana and east with little to no danger yet they refused to do so.

Yep. Russia would dominate America swiftly and soundly if it ever came to that. The western propaganda machine would be working overtime to try to tell all the normies everything is ok.
