US judge rejects bid to unseal Epstein grand jury transcripts from Florida probe
This is a predictable result. The administration knew that there are specific laws on grand jury testimony confidentiality. So in stead of releasing the information compiled in the investigation they said the would request the unsealing of grand jury testimony. This was designed to lose so they could blame the judge, who is just following the law.
Everything that the government submitted before the grand jury could be released independently by the government without any reference to the grand jury.

WSJ now reporting
quote:
When Justice Department officials reviewed what Attorney General Pam Bondi called a “truckload” of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein earlier this year, they discovered that Donald Trump’s name appeared multiple times, according to senior administration officials.
In May, Bondi and her deputy informed the president at a meeting in the White House that his name was in the Epstein files, the officials said. Many other high-profile figures were also named, Trump was told. Being mentioned in the records isn’t a sign of wrongdoing.
The officials said it was a routine briefing that covered a number of topics and that Trump’s appearance in the documents wasn’t the focus.
They told the president at the meeting that the files contained what officials felt was unverified hearsay about many people, including Trump, who had socialized with Epstein in the past, some of the officials said. One of the officials familiar with the documents said they contain hundreds of other names.
They also told Trump that senior Justice Department officials didn’t plan to release any more documents related to the investigation of the convicted sex offender because the material contained child pornography and victims’ personal information, the officials said. Trump said at the meeting he would defer to the Justice Department’s decision to not release any further files.

The ability to release everything supplied to the grand jury.

I do not believe anything the media reports on these days - especially when the story is totally based on unnamed sources. But, this does make sense. It explains the sudden change of the current Administration. It also explains why the Biden Administration did not release anything even though it could damage Trump because there are prominent Democrats named in the files.
Not saying I believe it - just that if it is true, it can explain why neither Biden nor Trump released the files.

I said a week or two ago I thought Trump was just going through the motions with the GJ stuff and it would give him the excuse to say he tried. We didn't even get empty calories.

Your logic: Trump should release the Epstein files; Trump proceeds to have the transcripts released; Judge denies request; Trump is to blame for this
I've written novels about the hard spot Trump might be in and a bunch of speculative theories about what may be the obstacles he faces, and little of it aligns with the above
I definitely think Trump knew the GJ transcript was unlikely to be released and he thought it was a low risk bone to throw at us. That's quite different from blaming him for the outcome.

You aren't thinking.
For Example:
I see a robbery. I am called before a grand jury and i testify that I saw the robbery. The grand jury testimony is sealed and can never be released. But I can go on the evening news and describe that I saw the robbery and everything about it. The police can release a copy of my statement from the investigative files of the robbery.
The only thing that is shielded from release is my grand jury testimony. The facts and the general investigative materials are not.
Trump administration knows this. The one thing that the administration cannot release themselves is grand jury testimony. That's why Trump dangled this fake "request for release" for morons like you. And Trump's administration lawyers even argued in court that the grand jury testimony could not be released.
This is a very very weak deflection attempt by Trump.

Like moths to a flame. LowT, Seldom, Rex…the only usual Libitard missing is SFP, he must be staking out a trailer park somewhere trying to serve divorce papers.

It now goes back to Trump's court and all the hair on fire reporting that will ensue. Somehow they will say this is Trump's fault.
This was always the plan. The grand jury thing is just a scapegoat so Trump can blame the courts for not releasing Epstein stuff. Meanwhile there's far more stuff the feds could reveal but won't, all the while blaming the courts.

there is no law restricting public dissemination of information. There is a law preventing release of grand jury testimony.
I will give you the legal citation to the law that controls the release of general information compiled in an investigation, "_______". There it is.
Legal citation that prevents release of grand jury transcripts, "Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 6."
