This blockade doesn't win shite. Having the blockade is fine but alone it just hurts everyone and helps nobody. It certainly isn't going to destroy the IRGC.

The very last people to starve to death in Iran will be the IRGC. Not happening. So we better come up with a plan.

If the IRGC is smart they will just keep doing exactly what they are doing. Firing missiles at the UAE and sit back and wait. Apparently if they do that they are untouchable to the USA.

Higher crude oil prices, higher bond market rates, higher for longer interest rates, physical damage to oil infrastructure that will take even longer to fix… could probably think of a lot more consequences.

I can't imagine the world will thank us if we cause a famine in the south

We also stand to seriously frick up our own economy. Our economy is heavily dependent on a stable semiconductor supply chain.

Showing the US can not protect the UAE is the goal of the IRGC right now.

That was their plan if they were bombed.

So it is your contention that a nuclear armed Iran would have been a proponent of free shipping through Hormuz? It never had designs on controlling that waterway? That is your premise?

No. The Iranian goal is to join hands with treacherous anti-American elements, like congressional Democrats, to outlast current US actions.

It’s not my premise. We can only claim they would have closed it someday and the rest of the world will express their doubts and objections because it’s just a projected claim.

What’s your premise? Regime change is necessary? US navy is now required to patrol the Strait indefinitely? Or we just pay them off to open it back up?

As I've stated many times here, the actions in Venezuela and Iran are at least as much about China as they are about those countries. There is a bigger game afoot.

But with regard to Iran, there is no question whatsoever of their eventual intent to control Hormuz.

And this strategy works because the US Congress, which is led by the GOP, has not authorized a war. China is telling them how to play it because China knows Trump doesn’t want to attempt to go that route.

Yes. They want to set themselves up as a classic "chokepoint lord" and extract tolls. There are 8 key ones on the world's oceans.

"Them "is a floating signifier here. It is equally likely to refer to Iranian leadership as it is to refer to Elizabeth Warren. That is a bit of a national tragedy, and in and of itself, a reason to geopolitically hamstring China.

We can agree that China is a big problem for the US here.

A reason to hamstring China is all well and good. But…they are playing possum and waiting for us to keep making mistakes

There seems to be a very stupid notion that what is bad for China is necessarily good for us

This is not the case
