The audience isn’t the financial districts. It’s the parties we are attempting to negotiate with. This past announcement then pause was because the EU wasn’t working in good faith. The US has leverage and his threat of 50% tariffs brought them back to the table. The pause was a response to them agreeing to come back to the table. Should this just be a delaying tactic they tariffs will go in effect.

Trumps tariff plan will work as long as he is able to move freely. The dim-marxists are having an effect using this flaw in the judicial system where any two-bit judge can run roughshod over the executive. Who could have imagined the lawfare would take this form this time?

Will they? I have seen nothing that show me that MAGA will actually take to the streets and do anything.

The counter-revolution will not be online.

Trump’s plan will work as long as he operates within the confines of the law. The majority of the world’s capital flows to the United States because of the stability and predictability of our judiciary to resolve disputes based on the rule of circumscribed law. Our debt and deficit are ignored because of our military.

Our separation of powers is not a flaw; it’s a core feature of the stability of our system for nearly 250 years.

Congress has the unfettered, constitutional power to levy tariffs. Trump can either (a) convince them to do it, or (b) get more power from them to do it unilaterally.

Declaring an emergency to grab power is the stuff of banana republic dictators.

The stability of the system has brought way more wealth and prosperity to our society than the whims of any one man.

Not true. Congress has passed a series of laws delegating that authority to the Executive.

Under certain conditions. The plenary power rests with Congress.

Congress has passed laws abrogating its authority. To undue the current arrangement, Congress would need to pass a new law. The CRS explains the current arrangement in a way that even AOC could understand. I’d suggest you read it.

How can Congress abrogate constitutional proscriptions without an amendment? They can’t.

It sounds like this wolf came as a wolf.

Congress abrogated under certain conditions that the court has ruled have not been met here. Either a higher court will overrule or Trump is left with the the political options of getting Congress to do it or pass a law allowing him to do it under *these* circumstances.

Congress has the “plenary” power to voluntarily relinquish its constitutional authority via legislation. This is done routinely in almost every law that is passed which delegates authority to the executive branch.

The Maple Leaf decision, explained in the memo you could not be bothered to read, explains why the Trade Court’s ruling is so deeply flawed and why the Circuit Court issued an injunction.

Y'all are aware that this on again, off again, tweet-a-tariff-a-day business makes it difficult/impossible for American businesses to plan ahead, right?

Yes. A little short-term instability for long-term prosperity. It's the difference between looking at the next quarter vs the next 10 years.

You mean Maple Leaf piggybacking on what used to be Chevron-deference?

Link the CRS memo so we can both stop beating our dicks and beating our chests

Been outside all day. Thanks.

Just dropped in to remind you that you have no principles and are morally adrift.

You actually raise an issue identified by the author re Loper-Bright potentially undermining Maple Leaf.

When you say we’ve been abused by other countries, can you explain how that’s possible when the U.S.—with just 4% of the world’s population—controls 70% of global equity value?

So your argument is “if you are successful, you can’t have been treated unfairly”?

Have you considered the US is just good enough to overcome being treated unfairly? Or maybe we are treated unfairly because we are successful?
