That explains nothing.

Besides your motives.

You: " I asked what the rates now were in order to accurately predict what they may become in America."

Me: "No. You're arguing because the numbers are currently low it's not a big deal."

You: "Shut up! You don't know my motives!"

So 330,000,000 people 317 cases. 15 (old people with respiratory problems to begin with?) died. Is that a big deal?

I'm sorry, the "troll or sub 85 IQ" were the only rational conclusions to make from that.

350,000 is a lot of people.

I didn't think you were so worried.

You are naive if you believe everything you read or see on tv. Do you ever validate that the "expert" is who the tv claims they are.

Here's a video of US CIA testifying that their agents submit pieces to journals.
Then they refuse to answer in open testimony if their agents appear on news broadcasts manipulating the news.

If you think any of this stuff is real you have got a lot of evaluating to do!

So using your math, what is your estimate of deaths in the US from Corona?
Ballpark.

102,000-238,000 people is my ballpark guess.

What is yours?

Under 5,000.

We have too much hostility in this thread.

I think we can safely assume this isn't the impending apocalypse, but it's still a troubling disease outbreak. People shouldn't just poo-poo it, because it does look like the death toll is still rising, despite this being a priority treatment issue when diagnosed. To me, that's a bit concerning- if you get diagnosed, isolated and placed in a quarantined ICU, and it still kills you, that's serious.

When you couple that with the ability to spread- it spreads like any 'common cold' so it's going to spread- that is serious, too.

That's for you to decide. I'm not going to tell you what to believe or not to believe. What I will say is that you should question everything!

I'm sure there's a virus, the media is creating a panic by completely overhyping the info. I believe they are doing it on purpose.

So some things are true, then.

Which isn't new. That doesn't mean everything they say about the virus is "overhyping" though.

So, you think there's going to be between 150,000 and 500,000 deaths in the U.S. from COVID-19 this year?

I'm going to take the "under" on that...
Indeed.

The interesting thing though, is based on disseminated information, a CFR estimate of several hundred thousand deaths would be reasonable. Keeping in mind COVID-19 was an unknown bug just 3 months ago, early predictive information is simply incongruous with actual observations.

E.g., CV is still being publicly reported as more contagious (>R0 value) than flu. If that were accurate, and given the additional huge challenge of significant asymptomatic transmission (silent carriers), one would expect more rapid spread, much more than flu. We are not seeing that.

In fact, it is being reported that even with increased testing, there are already more patients in recovery than those newly diagnosed. If true, that is stunning. Certainly not at all flu-like.

Shhh they will claim you are panicking and causing alarm for nothing & that this will be over next week.

Also put away those numbers and facts, they have no power here.

Agreed, my level of fear has prompted me to stock on on food and household supplies. Not because I fear the virus itself (although I do recognize it's worse than the common flu - which is an insanely low bar anyways), but I know the media will hype it, and like any other disturbance, people will make a run for the store.

Does that make me a doomsday predictor? I don't know. All I know is if the stores are picked clean don't come running to me for toilet paper. You should have bought yours before CNN told the soccer moms to empty the shelves.

Yeah I really doubt thats going to happen. Pence might have claimed that but it's going to take longer than a week to get it done.

From your article...
quote:

Initially the White House had hoped to have distributed the test kits by the end of the week, but was not able to ramp up to meet that demand. Now, Pence is saying that the capacity to conduct at least 2.1 million tests will be available by next week — and that a consortium of private testing companies will add still more capacity as time goes by.

You should watch the press conference with Pence and the CDC from last night. Watch how the media asks questions, the same questions over and over and the CDC getting more and more annoyed at their panic pushing mentality. They have to keep people coming back. They are selling a story. The more hype the more views.

Unfortunately it is.
By the end of next week we'll supposedly have 4 million more distributed. That puts us in range.

The CDC really screwed the pooch on the test kit business. By next week we will be where we should have been 3 weeks ago.

Until this week, I believe South Korea had performed more tests than we even had in circulation.

Per the news conference 1 kit does not equal 1 test. Several tests can be conducted per kit.

In the USA? I just don't see that.

To-date there have been a little over 3,000 deaths in China from COVID-19 and the daily number of deaths there is now under 30/day and declining as is the number of new cases. And China is Ground Zero for it and was the most unprepared for it.

With our superior health care system in the US, thanks to people like you who work in our health care system, and with less than 1/3 the population of China and with the forewarning and treatment preparation for the virus, I believe we'll see fewer than 5,000 deaths in the U.S. from COVID-19. And likely MUCH fewer than 5,000 deaths...
