University of Florida officials massively downplayed the scale of their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs in official filings to Ron DeSantis, one of the governor's appointees has alleged to DailyMail.com.

Christopher Rufo, a DeSantis education hire, accused university bosses of 'lying through their teeth to the governor' by declaring they had some 30 DEI schemes costing $5million a year - when they were really running more than 1,000.

Rufo provided DailyMail.com with internal University of Florida files showing the breadth of DEI work on campus. University officials declined to comment on the allegations.

quote:

DeSantis, a Republican, late last year told Florida's public universities to disclose all government funds spent toward programs, classes and other initiatives related to DEI and the teaching of critical race theory.

In its official reply, the Gainesville-based University of Florida, which has roughly 8,000 academics and 60,000 students, said it runs some 30 to 40 DEI schemes at a cost of more than $5 million per year.

They included the salaries of DEI staffers, including a chief diversity officer, assistant director, senior advisor to the president and an executive assistant, that gobbled up more than $1 million each year — most of it from state coffers.

The upshot is that we can count on Ron to clean things up. Would anyone else have hired Chris Rufo? I don’t think so. Ron was brave to bring him on, and it is about to really pay off. Look at how they cleaned up the new college of Florida

The DEI is how they cater to out-of-state students, since that's where the money comes from. It's the same thing with the public universities here in Texas.

DEI has just been banned at Texas public colleges and universities.

Texas is the latest state to defund diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, known as D.E.I. The move there is part of a national wave by conservative politicians who say that taxpayer money is being used to stoke racial division and push a liberal agenda in colleges and universities.

TU will still be woke even with Texas law only permitting 10% of their student body to come from out of state.

I'm in Gainesville. Grew up in Gainesville.
I could go for a while about the changes here, especially at UF. Before someone tries to give me some stat sheet of stuff from UF, the same stat sheet has been present for UF since the days of competing with FSU to be the #1 party school. UF has a very good track record of prominent faculty and researchers, but UF never emphasized rankings. The switch to emphasizing rankings was not a good change and did not produce good results. State universities come with heavy emphasis on public service and that was what UF clung to - and then it changed.

The former UF president that came from Utah in 2003, Bernie Machen, was a disaster. He is why UF is a mess right now. Big on the diversity crap, big on school ranking, wanted to just grow and grow and grow and never once thought about sustainment or impact to the local community. Came from Utah, spent time at Michigan (huge DEI haven). He's the single worst thing to ever happen to UF. He's the guy that wanted to strip alcohol from campus and lobbied to change the name of the WLOCP because he didn't like the 'cocktail' part. Complete douche bag. Typical academic elite that UF is now full of, that come here and think it's just a bunch of southern heathens, riding around on the back of turnip trucks.

Most of Florida is red and in the north central part is this blue dot and that is Gainesville.

When DeSantis announced this program about DEI, I knew the state schools, and especially UF, would try to game this and lie. Only a fool would think these schools would be truthful. The modern leftist mindset is happy to abandon truth and integrity if it's for 'the cause'.

RINO Ben Sasse is now UF president. My expectations are low.

UF didn’t prioritize rankings because of John Lombardi’s influence. He called out those rankings for what they were/are. They are crap.

UF had more Than 30 DEI initiatives when I was there in the late 90’s. To say they “only” had around 30 in 2023 is laughable. It would’ve been laughable 25 years ago.

True, although it started before Lombardi - Marston, Criser, and the other UF presidents from back in the day, they pushed back on that stuff all the time and firmly stuck to the traditional role of a state school.

I don't know about the numbers, but in that time period the DEI / woke stuff did not affect programs or anything relevant to daily happenings on campus etc. The only thing that was complained about was the greek system and how corruptly it affected things like Florida Blue Key, block seating at football games, etc.

Did I perhaps misidentify you earlier? What set do you roll with? What color you represent??

Red? Bloods/Trump

Blue? Desantis Crips

My bad if I wrongfully fronted on your white arse, if we both fly red.

I've never seen a more blatant example of the tail wagging the dog than those damned metrics, and it ain't just UF. Schools don't chase academic excellence any longer, they chase metrics.

Probably less than you would think. I think a lot more of that grifting gets routed through Southern.
