Absolutely

It’s a small hurdle, but it does mean having your photo taken, going to the embassy, or mailing your passport to the embassy. And then there are the fees, whatever they will be.

It could really reduce tourist traffic.

Well their countries their rules. What’s the issue? This is just like Americans asking where you’re going if from another country. We would bitch if they didn’t follow our rules.

As a frequent traveler to Europe this is absurd. I'm not from some third world country, I'm from the US and I have cash. Failure of diplomacy.

Welp, that’s an interesting move EU...

You could honestly say that the US should require advanced documentation from the EU being they are so lax on immigration from the terrorist producing middle eastern countries.

Your move Trump

Does the Russian Army need special permission to cross the borders into Western Europe?

And if we don’t get one, can we just call ourselves “Undocumented Tourists”??

Americans tourists generate a lot of revenue in Western Europe. It’s certainly their decision to make, but it will hurt them.

Tourism is easy money for countries like Spain and France. And it’s doubly important given how dysfunctional their own economies are.

Regardless, this is quite a departure for the non-visa travel afforded to short-term visitors previously. I’ve traveled to countries were obtaining a tourist visa beforehand was a requirement and while not the worst thing in the world, it’s still a process. And every 3 years is bit of a pain, IMO. I’m used to 10-ish to renew.

The only good thing about countries with stricter visa requirements is you usually get a pretty badass full page visa in your passport.

I don’t know why anyone would want to visit that shite hole region. We have everything we could ever want or need right here in the USA.

Of absolutely zero consequence to me. They weren't even on my radar for a family vacation.

If we slap a visa requirement on EU member states, the EU is going to slap one on us. I do not see any reason for outrage.

Why did I need a visa to visit France the first time? Because I have been traveling internationally since before you were born, kid
Wow very elitist view there, sport.

You don't want the blacks getting off your slave plantation do yah?

This requirement isn’t very much. Looks like an eVisa, which isn’t difficult or time consuming. It’s the equivalent of a shot across the bow.

However, it’s a pain in he arse all the same, and the fact that the EU wants us to treat Croatia and France the same is rather silly. They aren’t the same.

The end result here is we are either going to add a visa requirement to all the EU, or we’re going to give the whole EU visa free travel. It’s also going to drive a further wedge between Europe and America.

It’s Trump. There’s no way it’s option 2.

He will slap a Visa Requirement on the EU in retaliation. It’ll all be settled by 2021. There’s no chance in hell that France, Italy, Spain will not oppose this drastically.

Sounds like visa was a mischaracterization.

quote:

Visa-free travelers, including US citizens, will need to request ETIAS authorization before visiting the Schengen Area. They can complete an application and pay a service fee of 7 euros (about $8) online. The authorization is valid for three years. "Completing the online application should not take more than 10 minutes with automatic approval being given in over 95% of cases," the European Commission said in a statement.

I needed a special visa the first time I went to France, so this shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

What are your views on voter ID laws again??

I love it when people mistakenly acknowledge their opposition to things are BS.
