Is that through the end of April officially? I think there is a temporary one and a permanent one. Once things open back up I think it falls to 8% pretty quick. To get to sub 5% will take 100% capacity at restaurants, casinos and other entertainment events. I think that takes 6 months or more.I know several businesses that furloughed employees some with sizable numbers that are now back on payroll due to PPP so they’ll washout of it pretty quickly.

18.1 million are considered temporary according to cnbc while 2M are permanent. That’s the more important number. PPP will pull millions out of that number by the end of May.

For now. Will be less than 5% come November.
Not a chance in hell

Not going to be 5% come November. Some industries are hit too hard to allow for mass hiring of low income wage earners.
It should be close to 10% by year end.

Most of those 18 million will not be asked back. Been around this world long enough to know how it works.

Exactly because employers are going to be very, very conservative about hiring in this environment.

Earlier this week the media predicted 20%.

This will happen if you deliberately shut down the work.

Just reporting what some economists are saying.

Stay home!
Amazing how many states (especially blue states) continue that narrative. It doesn't work, all a overreaction!!

I'm sure you're right. I'm sure that a senile lickspittle to China in the White House will make no difference.

The whole stay home narrative is truly disgusting. It's not saving anything and it's further crashing our economy.

And the markets jumped

I haven’t done the research, but I’m curious to see how the C portion of GDP has been affected, and how consumer confidence is ranking. If CC is still tanking, no one’s going to buy anything and there will be no need to hire. This could then flow over into the I portion of GDP, which could hit jobs higher up the chain.
Until people start shopping, dining, etc., the employment numbers will be in the shitter.

This country is screwed, it will take YEARS to undo what has been done, just wait for the inflation dumb arse Trump did by printing 6 trillion cash, and you just wait for the bailouts which haven't even started.
Remember, banks and big businesses are too big to fail. I remember 2008-2010 real well thank you.

Why should they work when they get $1,000 a week in unemployment?

In some past eras, I could agree with you, but in certain times, especially now, with the shadow govt flexing harder than ever in W and Barry's terms, the depth of corrupt politicians at hand, and this coup d'etat of last four years..
Bullsh!t to your comment!

All politicians are corrupt, they aren't any more corrupt today than 5,000 years ago.
There was one really smart level headed group that founded this country and it has been down hill since.

I think there would be a huge difference between Biden and Trump getting the economy rolling again.
