The insidious side goal of DEI, outside of being effectively "reparations", was to make it so that young white men would be undesirable marriage prospects to women in their age group - less education, less income. Women now outnumber men 2:1 in college attendance rates.

Hispanics (and Latino) are considered an ethnicity by 2020 US Census definitions. They can be “white” or “non white” regarding Race.
Italians and Greeks have no ability to designate their ethnicity. Perhaps because they had to learn English and assimilate when they migrated to the USA en masse. So much so that the Italians encouraged their boys to play baseball over soccer.
Why is US Census giving special treatment to one group of white race people over another??

Govt considers Hispanics as white hispanic unless having a black parent. Makes no sense for the white part as they’re clearly not.
