University of California drops SAT and ACT

quote:

In a decision that could reshape the nation’s college admissions process, University of California regents unanimously voted Thursday to suspend SAT and ACT testing requirements through 2024 and eliminate them for California students by 2025.

The action by the nation’s premier public university system could mark a turning point in the long-running debate over whether the standardized tests unfairly discriminate against disadvantaged students or provide a useful tool to evaluate college applicants.

I'm not too bothered they are dropping it so much, but the reason they are doing so is a poor one.

Continuing to lower our education standards, I see.

And we wonder how we've raised two generations of functional retards.

Awesome.

Remove the only objective standard for admission so admissions can be strictly based on feels.

So I guess they will remain disadvantaged by lowering standards in classrooms after admission. Typical victim culture and soft bigotry of low expectations.

This is a picture of systemic racism. It is not what the libs say it is, as usual.

They are an elite public university system and can make their own choices. They are still going to admit high quality students. But I do not see this being able to work for lesser university systems.

ETA so many downvotes but no actual substantive responses. Sorry I triggered you snowflakes

Yeah, this is right in line with IQ secrecy. Prior to the 1990s your teacher could check your IQ in your cumulative folder in the counselor's office. Then it was banned because the teacher might consider some children dumber than others.

The ability to self-teach and perform well on an exam is apparently a bad measure of one's ability to self-teach and perform well on exams for the next 4 years.

Who knew?

Supposedly they are going to develop their own test.

Personally I believe that one-size fits all standardized testing misses some. I did not do as well on standardized format as I did on essay where I could explain my reasoning.

Like I said, I don't object to looking at alternative ways to judge potential students but it's pretty clear that this is about driving a social result rather than finding the best students.

Well, at least employers can now disregard all applicants from UC. It helps all the students that got into college based on merit instead of race.

It's amazing that anyone still holds the Ivy Leagues in high regards when they have been admitting lesser students in for years simply because of the color of their skin (or political beliefs like that Hogg dumbass).

And standard tests don't discriminate. Dumber people simply have lower scores. It's not the fault of smart people that the idiots coalesce into distinct demographics.

LSU used to have Open Admissions. The tuition was affordable, you could earn enough from part-time/summer jobs, we lived in some sad un-air-conditioned dorms. Large numbers failed, brushed off their bruised ego's and most went on to become successful citizens despite their stumble. The system worked.

It hurt L.S.U.'s national numbers though. Translations: All that federal loan money was going to Northeast Universities and Louisiana wanted their cut.
Now we have LSU shaped swimming pools and students going into lifelong debt to pay for bloated administrative salaries

The sad thing is this new move by Universities nation wide is just to milk the next generations, come one, come all and (at only $40,000 a year) party your future away.

Good news for the rich democrats, now they no longer have to pay people to take their kids tests.

Back in the day, a high school diploma meant you could competently read, write, and do arithmetic through basic algebra.

Then they cheapened it. Soon the HS diploma and its even cheaper equivalents (proof of nothing) were only proof that you sat through 12 years of school because you’d get the paper even if you couldn’t pass HS freshman courses! Maybe you were, maybe you weren’t.

Soon jobs that require the former proof of competence of the old HS diploma began requiring a bachelors.

Now California is dumbing that down. And the moron who wrote this article thinks the world with accept their libtarded lunacy. Soon like a HS diploma and its even cheaper equivalents, a California BS or BA will not be worth the paper it’s printed on!

But here is the bottom line. California schools are mal-educating a whole generation! California higher education teacher-professor positions are in jeopardy from this and the future Internet classes with extremely high student to professor ratios. And academia is an important component of the DNC/MSM Political Complex of leftist.

The way the socialist operate is: the media controlles the agenda, the Democrats intact the agenda, the academicians normalize the agenda, the entertainers make it popular, and the libtards enact the agenda by watching the media, voting democrat, watching movies and tv, and voting to subsidize academia through government tuition loans and eventually free college.

Janet Napolitano is the system President, which means there is a decent chance that the university firebombs some kids.

"We are removing the ACT/SAT requirement for California students and developing a new test that more closely aligns with what we expect incoming students to know to demonstrate their preparedness for UC."

As a 1983 graduate of UC-Berkeley, I can attest that the upper administration went off the rails long ago.

Their irrationality has been a frequent source of embarrassment for this Old Blue.
