I hate, hate, hate the fact that a deputy was killed. But this is something I am concerned about:

"even if we take pot prohibition as a given, there is no need to enforce it by breaking down people's doors while they are sleeping, a tactic that inevitably results in tragedies like this one"

I have a hard time seeing how this could not have been a more normal warrant-and-arrest. No-knocks are DANGEROUS, both because of officers' mistakes and the frightened response of the residents. I really do believe they should be used more sparingly.

i think it says something on how easy it is for police to obtain search warrents.

If the Feds came to break down my door, all they'd need to do is turn the knob. I lost the key to the front door sometime around 1994. I haven't really had a need to lock it. I know I'm living in a delusional state of freedom, but it's a vice I afford myself.

I remember a video when I was going through flying training called "EJECT OR DIE!" The premise was to develop a set of parameters such that when you were ever in a situation to punch out, you'd already made the decision beforehand. No time to think, just react.

If I ever got a "no knock" raid, I'll be dead but I'll give as good as I get.

Search warrants? This is America, they don't need no stinking search warrants.

There are certain rules which allow a convicted felon to own firearms. It depends on the charge, how long ago, and things like that.

No-knock raids are govt thuggery and have resulted in more unnecessary deaths of citizens and the fricking cops themselves. There are people serving jail time for defending themselves while being bum rushed in the middle of the night by these storm trooping thugs.

The guns could have been legally owned by the girlfriend.

There were 4 guns all legal.

1st The gun used was a semi auto rifle, in the bedroom

2nd His mother had a gun in the kitchen

3rd His grandfather's shotgun was in the house

4th gun was locked in a safe

I can't believe we made it off the first page of a Tigerdroppings thread about cops without a comment about dogs

The idiotic cop who was killed was the one who sought out the no-knock warrant so he could play billy bad arse, now he's dead, no big loss in my opinion.

This no-knock situation is uncalled for.

Just like David Koresh, the local sheriff knew he went to town regularly, and knew him fairly well otherwise.

They could have waited and picked him up in town and not touched off a series of events that got a whole bunch of innocent people killed.

No knock warrants are asking for these types of situations.

Cops that kick in doors and don't identify themselves are asking for it.

Any homeowner, criminal or not, not gets bum rushed in that manner should not be held accountable.

Maybe if it happens more, they will go back to being cops instead of what they are becoming.

Between shite like this and cops becoming revenue producers rather than protectors, they need to be bridled. It's getting out of control.

Seems like this could have all been avoided if the cop would have taken a different approach.

How about knocking on the door? Maybe making a phone call? Meeting him at his work place?

Follow him to the grocery store & stop him as he is putting his bags in his car, as he checks his mailbox , as he clocks in at work, as he leaves McDonald's etc...There are MANY far more subtle/peaceful ways to pick up a suspect.

Cops have boasted about the adrenaline rush they get when serving these warrants as if though they are speaking about fricking snowboarding.

Why not knock on the door and execute the search warrant when someone answered?

Probably didn't want to give the guy the time to dispose of the drugs.

Arrest in public increases the chance of innocent civilians getting hurt.

GTFO . Get a drop on an unsuspecting 'suspect' & it's basically over.

Bullets travel through the walls of homes & can hit a next door neighbor/ innocent children or family in the home as well.

Let alone frightening the hell out of them & rightfully putting a bullet through a cops head because they don't know what's happening.

That's just a b.s. Excuse to continue with their little adrenaline rush.

He had a felony and misdemeanor drug conviction before, but no history of violence and all his guns were legally owned. Aside from growing a few plants the feds don't want people growing he was pretty much a law-abiding citizen.

There is something oddly wrong with this statement.

Really, so you are saying this is going to cause cops to kill more innocent citizens.
