I don't know how much more seriously he could have taken this besides shutting down the entire fricking US Economy and using military style legislation to order the manufacture emergency medical supplies and marshalling miliatry assets to build field hospitals that it turns out we didn't need bc he acted so fast.

He didn't downplay anything in March. He told a reporter, on the record,that he downplayed things a bit in the early goings. His response wasn't downplayed, just the rhetoric. At the time when we really didn't know what we were facing and had severe ppe shortages, meat shortages, shite paper shortages, etc...
In that same time, dems were incomplete and utter denial as they invited people to party it up in Chinatown and were telling everyone that Trump's control measures were hysterical and racist. Experts like #EsteemedFauci were telling everyone this wasn't a threat throughout January and February.
Meanwhile, if the reporter were truly concerned about a cover up, why wait 6 months to divulge the interview? The narrative doesnt work without putting blood all over the media's hands

Pelosi was in China Town in March asking everyone to come out and have a good time. They didn't seem worried.

They would be lambasting him for the huge stockpile of unused ventilators and face masks., while praising Obama for having the fiscal responsibility to not over react and build up such an absurd amount of supplies.
