Calm down pussy. Local Law Enforcement has had access to all kinds of military equipment for years already. You haven't suffered in any way and you still have every freedom you have ever had.

The program lets smaller departments that do not have an abundance of funding to get equipment that is extremely useful. Do you not want your local officers to have correct equipment to help you if your family if they needed it? That's what happens on a daily basis.

There is also much oversight with yearly inspections that the department must pass to account for the equipment. ALSO the military can come get it at anytime they need or want. Alot of this stuff is older and is just sitting around wasting away.

Sec. 4.  Using National Security Assets for Law and Order.  (a)  Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security and the heads of agencies as appropriate, shall increase the provision of excess military and national security assets in local jurisdictions to assist State and local law enforcement.
(b)  Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Attorney General, shall determine how military and national security assets, training, non-lethal capabilities, and personnel can most effectively be utilized to prevent crime.

Why do local police need military equipment to be used on our own civilian population?

I'm too lazy to read through this thread, but I assume you're killing the Back the Blue contingent.

"But SFP, we love our local police, it's the Feds that we hate."

They're actually confusing the whole federal and state thing, ignoring that this is an issue of giving military equipment to State localities and then they bring up the alleged improprieties of the federal government under Biden.

The bigger issue is conceptual. They're totally fine with more authoritarian power and a bigger government as long as they perceive it to be applied to the outgroup. Until rational people like Us can shed this whole irrational in group out group silliness, I fear it's not going to lead to productive discussions or changing things for the positive.

Doesn't Louisiana have a pretty bad rep for civil asset forfeiture? That ain't feds stealing your property, that's local and state.

Law enforcement is mandatory for rule and order!

This attitude is a result of the erosion of 2nd amendment rights. Keep in mind that law enforcement is the armed extension of the government. If not held firmly in check, government always serves its own interests… power and expansion.

So we're planning on using military "assets" in local jurisdictions now?

"Now"?

The militarization of law enforcement has been happening since shortly after Nancy Reagan declared the War on Drugs.

The increasing militarization of police forces in the United States can be traced back to the 1980s, when the U.S. Congress passed the Military Cooperation With Law Enforcement Act, which allowed the military to provide local LEAs with surplus military equipment. This program was expanded in the 1990s and 2000s, with the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the 1033 Program. These policies and strategies directly contributed to the use of aggressive and lethal tactics by LEAs in the United States and abroad.
