Called the American Academy.

He’s hitting these woke universities where it hurts, in the pocketbook.

Exactly what we need, more kids going to college and getting largely worthless degrees when we should be pushing more and more younger people into trade schools.

A&M and Vandy may be screwed here.

My healthcare plan was going to establish a national med school, 6yr curriculum, 100k students, adding about 15k new, additional doctors per year. We need this. Too much knowledge out there for the 4yr med school model. Guy in that tweet is 100% correct about starting a new med school. Sorely needed.

I like the idea of taxing the endowments, if it goes after the largest endowments and not all of them. The other thing Trump could do is start re-scoring grant applications, dividing scores by a school's endowment amount. This would pretty much take Harvard and similar schools out of the mix entirely. Let's see if they really have a commitment to public service and go ahead and use their endowment to fund research activity.

Hopefully this will post ok, it's a list of the 20 largest endowments. 6 days ago from US News. usnews

Taxing private universities to fund a free public university?

Sounds like Socialism to me. Do not agree with this move. And the free university will just be corrupted by the same BS soon as Dems win the White House/Congress in the future

It will end up more woke than anything just like NPR is

Hmmm…so we get rid of the the Department of Education only to create a new government bureaucracy that will be funded by taxing someone else so we can have “free college education.”

Wonderful

I’ve long believed that access to Knowledge should be free, at least to the degree that such is practical. I do realize that the R&D which is the source of much Knowledge costs $, but it would seem that before anything, a society should subsidize the acquisition and dispensation of knowledge. Albeit my Economic knowledge is limited.

Yep. During a time we're supposed to be getting the Fed out of the education business.

More taxes. More government. Yay.

Bernie Sanders is ejaculating over this plan. It has everything. Big bad rich, elite universities, and we are gonna learn them something by taking their money. We can make the pay so the masses can have something free.

Concept of taxing university endowments is interesting, but it should go towards some kind of fix for the student loan crisis.

Use the funds to buy out the government’s stake in student loans.

People with existing loans pay their balance back at low interest.

Government gets out of loan business for good.

Whether a university degree or trade school I'm definitely for this. Trump never ceases to surprise me with these cutting edge ideas that only those with TDS would fight.

Or those who want the federal government to play a smaller role in education...
