They should try prosecuting the drug dealers.

so cradle to grave control, even of our own bodies, by the government. Wonderfull. What happened to the pursuit of happiness, and some degree of comfort, especially for the elderly. Why don't we outlaw cigarettes and alcohol? They perform no beneficial functions at all while there are many benefits that come from pain medications.

The Quiet Epidemic of Senior Drug Abuse
I was curious about the potency comparisons of the same of te various opoids yesterday, so I was looking forward a comprehensive chart on Google images.

I was reading one, and I looked at the top and it was as recommending what to do when converting to a new opiod. So I thought I had stumbled onto something for illicit users.

It was actually something for palliative care. I understand the use, but it didn't seem like this was for physicians or pharmacists who have the training in pharmacology. It just seemed odd.

it's clear now that doctors and pharmacists have been completely uneducated and careless with opioids for decades

Good. Time to legalize marijuana

exactly, why not just legalize weed while we're at it (sarcasm). Seriously it seems where we are heading. We put heat on doctors for prescribing hydrocone, which is a great benefit to many patients, especially the elderly, while legalizing weed in some states. It's just getting absurd. Great we'll have a country of a bunch of stoners. What a country.

I agree with that. Patients need to be made fully aware that when they are prescribed pain pills over a period of time they will become dependent on them. So doctors do need to educate the patients of this. So the good has to be weighed against the bad on an individual basis and not some blanket decision by the government.

Sure. And of course there are examples of inexcusably careless or corrupt medical professionals. At the same time, I think these are disproportionately overstated, and they have become convenient scapegoats for a far broader problem.

On one hand, people abused the system and script shopped, unbeknownst to physicians and pharmacists--especially before the technology was able to catch this.

Most importantly, the government conveniently gets overlooked when their response to the problem was to intrude, which resulted in people addicted to prescription opoids forced to feed their addiction via far more dangerous and addictive illicit drugs. And of course the black market doesn't have any standards to prevent worst case scenarios other than wanting to keep their customer base.

So of course we look to the government, and likely most expect them to fix the problem with more government, and likely more of the same policies and decisions that contributed to the current problems.

It's insanity.

I hate Trump. But I'm very glad that I can say I'm thrilled about something he did that's great for America. And this is a fantastic first step in America's drug problem. Because drug use should not be treated as a criminal problem, but a public health problem.

Wrong...prescriptions have identifiers, Mg, etc. heroin has nothing.

Yeah, but I've never experienced pain relief from weed like others claim.

Probably because you don't need opiates, and you have a good, ethical doctor that doesn't want his patients hooked on dope. Find one that gets blown by pharma reps, and you'll be swimming in pills.

It's one of the only times I've said Trump did exactly what needs to be done.

And frick Jeff Sessions. He should've never left home and stopped baking cookies.
