As I'd mentioned, I also need further validation and confirmation on Trump's alleged "500,000" quote.

Someone posted the MSN link above and the video is also there from the daily caller

This does appear to be real after all

Okay, then I amend my statement.

I don't think Trump meant what he said. No way he's stupid enough to greenlight 500K Chinese students.

BTW there are several news articles talking about Trump letting in Chinese students in exchange for getting rare earth minerals from China

And that deal is only for six months. Rare Earth Elements are a weakness of ours and it’s a big one.

Yeah he probably means that we have 500k Chinese students here.

But fudged the numbers.

There is also this.

quote:

A conservative estimate, accounting for multi-year stays and a portion of new students each year, suggests approximately 500,000–600,000 unique Chinese students studied in the U.S. from 2021 to 2025.

It's not a deepfake, the comments are on the White House YouTube stream (1:09:30 if it doesn't start there)

Yesterday I saw someone talking about the 500,000 number, I'll try to find that. So I think this is very real.

Like I said earlier he may be thinking about getting the total amount up to 500K. I can't imagine it's 500K additional Chinese students.

But if we take him at his word it does appear to be 500K additional

It's part of the trade deal for rare earth minerals and magnets apparently

Guess we'll have to wait and see what the reality is

If this actually happens, I’m finished with Trump.

This is a red line for me. He will have a revolt by his base if he does this

Was Chinese supply of rare earths at risk six months ago? Honest question, I don't recall anything about it in the news until Xi responded to tariffs.

The lack of clarity in defining “coming in” and the absence of supporting data point to a misstatement.

“Look, I’ve always been in favor of students coming in from other countries. That includes China,” Trump said. “We have 500 thousand Chinese students coming in, I’ve always been in favor of it.”

“Does it mean that you have to watch people? Yeah, you have to watch students but you have to watch other people also. I’ve always been strongly in favor of it. I think it’s a great thing,” the president continued. “It’s good for our schools, I think it’s good for our country. I’m also in favor of having them stay. I’ve been in favor of letting them stay.

Straight from the Daily Caller reporter who asked Trump the question.

Let's stop pretending that Trump believes in anything other than getting credit for making a deal.

They have some great students. If they are spies they will be weeded out.

I had a dot indian MD save one of my kids life. I don't understand the mantra of not wanting anyone in-via the way they are suppose to come in.

This is not that big of a deal. It is like some of you have never left the bayou and saw diversity is not bad.

I don’t recall anything either. They cut us off early in the trade war. China controls 69% of production and 90% of their refining. People have had their heads up their butts thinking we’re okay in this area. Its bad, really bad and considering how critical they are it just makes it even worse that we’ve sat back and watched it happen.

Everyone knows what he said.

It’s whether you believe 500k chinese students are coming in or he misspoke.

We get closer to 80k new Chinese students a year.

500k is a big jump.

So the better play would have been to quietly build/rebuild our own capacity + funded/developed deposits in more friendly/controllable countries.

The new MAGA mantra - "Diversity is our Strength!"

Don Jr should trademark it.

China placed limitations on exports to the U.S. of 7 rare earth elements after Trump's liberation day tariffs.

Yes, undoubtedly. There was never a need to rush the trade war to a global scale as he chose to do. We still don’t have a deal with Japan who is as good of an ally as we could hope for. He went in hard but the world is a big place and this allowed other countries to take a look around and see where they could strike advantageous deals. It would’ve better to go one at a time forging deals along the way and strengthening your hand (and domestic capabilities) and then hitting China once you’ve got “the cards” as Trump likes to say. We have our markets and that isn’t insignificant. But the global market dwarfs ours and resources aren’t equally divided. The rare earths are heavily concentrated in countries not truly allied with us. It was short-sighted and exploitable. So here we are.

I am looking at the video wondering if it is real./doctored? Maybe Trump misspoke and is off a 0? It seems to be aggregated from a foreign name on X.

Just sayin the democrats are DESPERATE to GET TRUMP TO PISS OFF MAGA.

I am more diversified than the average Joe here; and think Tulsi or Noem would make great Presidents.
