buy American. Problem solved.
Yup. Sure, the tariffed products price will increase, that's the point. So buy another one that's cheaper or better yet, buy American as LSUTIGER suggests.

Cool. That’s Argentina. They don’t have remotely close to the same economy or responsibilities that our country does.
Doesn’t matter what country it is. Tariffs don’t decrease inflation. That’s econ 101.

How muck in trade deficits did Argentina have? If you are not in a trade deficit then you can get rid of tarriffs.
Argentina achieved a record trade surplus in 2024

The American prices will not be any cheaper.
If a domestic product replacement is available at all, at best it will be priced strategically just under the effective tariffed import price so that the domestic supplier can also maximize profit.

Exactly so they are in a situation where they can do away with tariffs. We are the opposite.

trade restrictions don't seem to be causing problems with the European and Asian countries.
Europe has higher inflation, lower gdp growth, lower gdp per capita and just about everything else than us.
Mississippi has higher GDP per capita than over half of Europe.
Try again

Tariffs are only bad for the nation imposing them! That explains why Canada and Mexico caved so quickly to the Trump imposing tariffs on them.

If you look at the motivations behind the tariffs instead of being a myopic frick hung up on "muh Drumpflation" maybe it will make a bit more sense

I have no problem with this. Now reciprocally lower my income taxes.

Objectively:
1) Less consumer choice
2) More consumer cost
3) Will not bring back manufacturing.
4) Destroys innovation
Its a feel good measure for economic illiterates.

Trade deficits have the same effect. As money leaves the country and is accumulated in other parts of the world it causes a shortage at home. More money is printed to resolve the problem. Printing money increases inflation and that is also econ 101. Fix the trade deficit first and foremost. Then you can manage tarriffs.

Their inflation rate is in line with ours, maybe marginally higher. Yeah, they have lower GDP and lower GDP growth.
Mississippi has higher GDP per capita than over half of Europe.
So, if they don't make anything compared to us, then why would tariffs on them be so hurtful to us?

Cool. That’s Argentina. They don’t have remotely close to the same economy or responsibilities that our country does.
The point is, there are sound economics regardless of the scale. Half of our population pays zero income tax, and our government is spending more than it takes in.

Roger prior to Trump suspending the tarriffs on Canada it was estimated that 50% of business were going to have to move to the US to avoid the tarriffs. So you're theory that "it will not bring back manufacturing" is laughable.

Would you still think tariffs are good if Obama or Biden were imposing them?
