tCULT clearly knows that the optics will be horrible listening to a geriatric narcissist vs a young conservative who can string together multiple complete thoughts.

This would set a new trend of not doing so and we need these candidates to answer questions without a script

It's disingenuous to have dishonest and unfair "debates" and then complain that not showing up is a bad trend.

You gave that up when you accepted the idea that debate moderators could operate in a biased way.

Trump isn't going to debate if he's way up in the polls.

Remember when it was announced that the DNC wouldn't hold any debates and that Biden wouldn't debate RFK, and everyone on here REeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee'd.

And literally the next day Trump said he didn't think he should debate either and they all quickly about faced.

Truly amazing studies in cognitive dissonance on this board

He isn’t an incumbent. He’s a favorite. He should debate and not doing it reeks of entitlement. Get out there and beat your competition face to face. He’s done it before and he could do it again.

He is entitled. hes been there and done that. The rest cant even get out of a primary. Why would I want Trump to help the uniparty? In the slightest?

He is not entitled to people's votes. He needs to earn them. Not debating doesn't help him.

Even Ron wont agree to get on the debate stage with the junior card, if Trump doesnt show.

They don’t invite the junior card. They put support thresholds for debate participation.

And the reason Trump should debate is that it will be used as a cudgel against him if he doesn’t. “Trump is too old to debate for an hour.” “He can’t remember his talking points.” “Remember how he criticized Biden for ‘staying in his basement’”.

He is an underperformer from 2018, 2020, 2022. He needs to earn it . No free passes.

He’d be entitled if he were the incumbent. Even then he could be challenged but in my world he’s just another face in the crowd of nominees. You’re arguing that it is his turn. He’s owed it. He isn’t owed it. He has to go out there and earn it again by proving himself to all of us. The people that make up the Republican Party deserve to see our nominees face off and challenge one another. Quite a few posters have taken the same position regarding DeSantis… it’s his turn in 2028 which I also disagree with. Let them fight it out and we’ll decide the best representative moving forward. If Trump wins so be it. If Ron wins so be it. But we deserve to make that decision based on how they perform against one another and selling their vision. Will Trump’s age catch up with him? Is Ron completely uncharismatic and unable to sell his vision? Who knows? But we’ll never get answers to those questions if they don’t stand before us. We are owed that and that by all of them and that is all that is owed.

Remember when Fetterman kept putting off debating until after mail in ballots had started and roughly 50% of PA had voted, and this board was big mad about it.

I remember.

No different than the race for governor of Arizona. Why expose yourself to any risk, if you can win without doing so.

The question thus becomes whether his handlers can convince him to evade the limelight for one night.
