Trump should push to add marijuana decriminalization to the Republican platform

Tulsi Gabbard's strategy of attacking her hardline stance prosecuting possession charges would be executed perfectly through Trump

Yeah, that's a real winner for a party thats supposed to be the conservative alternative.
Posted on 8/11/20 at 4:09 pm to Dawgwithnoname
That would be a more conservative approach. Conservative as in smaller government. It is also the pragmatic approach to the issue.

Conservatives are ok with freedom. Let pot heads be potheads.

I've said it before, Trump has pushed "conservatives" further left than any Democrat could have ever hoped for.

He already did that last campaign. They are going to unschedule pot. It is just a matter of when.

I would argue some issues that were deemed conservativere, really weren't. Most of us weren't in favor of unnecessary wars and dumping money into every nation on the earth.

So you guys don't consider social conservatism as "real" conservatism? You know conserving traditional values as opposed to being liberal and progressive with social values?
Posted on 8/11/20 at 5:25 pm to DellTronJon
The pothead Libertarians would get a boner over that !

Making smoking a plant illegal is a conservative traditional value?
More like a major invasive action in someone's private affairs that "morally superior" Christians have no business being in.

Its already illegal, so making it legal would be a progressive stance
This board is full of fiscal conservatives and social liberals who think their true conservatives.

Wanting to socially engineer society into your own preference via the government is a hallmark of progressive statism.

Making something illegal/legal isn't conservative or progressive.
It's they're btw.
Intruding on another person's life because you don't deem what they are doing as morally correct doesn't make you a conservative. It makes you a theocratic a-hole.

quote:Stop parsing. And start explaining what is "conservative" about empowering the federal government to imprison consenting adults from consuming a product of their choice? At the very least, make the case that pot is different than alcohol. And if you can't, then make the case for Prohibition. Go on.
Its already illegal, so making it legal would be a progressive stance

The rule of law has been part of every successful society since the beginning of man. "Socially engineering" some form of decency is a conservative value. Anarchy/libertarianism is what you actually support.

Two self-described “conservatives,” each arguing that the other is not “conservative.”
Freakin’ hilarious.

It used to be legal for men to beat their wives for getting mouthy. Is that law still in place or did we realize that sometimes laws need to be updated/changed because human beings clearly realized that was a stupid practice?
As someone who absolutely loves the rule of law and realizes that without it, human beings would be mostly morally corrupt and evil... I also realize that some laws aren't exactly 100% the best.
In saying all that, please explain to me how the legality of smoking a fricking plant "destroys any form of decency in humans".
And please don't give me some stupid platitudes about the rule of law and how it's currently illegal. Use some actual logic and understanding, not baseless emotions like it's bad cause my preacher told me.

Religious conservatism vs. political/government conservatism... Social conservatism just means you want people to behave how you think your God wants them too.

Marijuana is a psychotropic drug that alters the mind and lowers a person's ability to reason and make decisions. People who smoke Marijuana are more likely to commit crimes, lose their jobs, and lose IQ points (an average of 8 iq points if use begins during teen years).
So your argument is whether we need to allow people easy access to something that diminishes their ability to be a functional member of society.
Same goes for alcohol, but the violent criminals during prohibition (progressives of the time) won that battle.
