She won his seat in the House of Representatives in an election. People cannot be appointed to House seats only Senate seats.

The primary is August 11th, runoff if necessary will be August 25th… then the election on November 3rd.
If a “real candidate” were to fill in, they’d have less time to go out and earn votes.
His sister is fine to keep the seat warm and vote as her brother would have voted.
This is NOT a big deal. It is literally a very short term placeholder that is better relegated to someone happy to BE temporary AND act as the office holder would act.

Good points, especially about the contenders need to campaign, however, being in office has never really stopped that before, but it’s a good point, if that were a real job.
