I like it.
There’s plenty of grass around the White House.
The new courtyard does need a large solid gold fountain in the middle though.

That's a good article, the first few paragraphs are loaded against trump, but once they get into the details, it sounds like a very nice project. Almost like one person wrote the lead, then someone else wrote the actual article. It is credited to two different journalists.
ETA- for libs that aren't going to read that Architectual Digest link, no roses or flowers were removed, in fact Melania had more roses planted.

I remember during first term, some kid wanted to mow the rose garden and Trump allowed him.

Trump wants to build a patio in the Rose Garden so the events aren’t on soggy grass.

What kind of stone is that? Not marble is it? Seems reasonable and more useful for the space.

This ball room will be a crown jewel of America - Trump is leaving his mark and it’s a big one.

In terms of aesthetics, the ballroom looks much worse.
Sort of a bit premature to bash the “aesthetics” when the actual stamped plans haven’t even been drafted. You’re melting over a literal preliminary rendering.

For someone who spends his whole life here fighting misleading statements you couldn't have picked a more misleading photo to start with. Those flowers are still there. It's just the lawn that's not the focus of that mashup that was paved over.

You're right... that is a terribly misleading photo. Yikes!

WTF do you know about gauche?

Trump knows a thing or two about building aesthetically pleasing spaces.

We don't need to be wasting money on this or a ballroom that didn't need work, I don't care who the president is.

SFP stole those pictures from a Vogue magazine piece. Even his critique was stolen from the article. Sad.

They Paved Paradise? A Closer Look at Trump’s New White House Rose Garden
quote:
So, under what direction are today’s White House gardeners operating? A space that’s party-proof, Mar-a-Lago-inspired, and—according to Trump himself—less treacherous for high-heeled women.
quote:
But this year’s transformation? It marks the most dramatic departure yet. In short: they paved paradise and put up a patio. The newly tiled Rose Garden is just one of many sweeping aesthetic changes Trump has made to align the White House with his signature taste—an opulent blend of Mar-a-Lago grandeur and Trump Tower gloss. Out went the restrained décor of previous administrations; in came gilt cherubs, Rococo mirrors, and medallions gleaming with theatrical flair. He's even embraced a salon-style approach to hanging portraits, layering walls with bold imagery—including the framed New York Post cover of his own mugshot on proud display. “We handle it with great love,” Trump told Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during a March visit, “and 24-karat gold. That always helps, too.”

The ballroom is to be privately funded.
As for the rose garden, having it better equipped for pressers and events is a sensible move- hell, I bet they've even upgraded to electric lighting!

It looks much better with grass. Don't wear your high heels on Rose Garden day.
