True. Easily done as well, let customers donate to a food stamp fund if they wish and let grocery stores distribute it as they see fit.

Man, honestly this scares the shite out of me. One frick up means hundreds of deaths.
And hundreds of millions in lawsuits. Who do you think wants the passengers to be safer, the government or the airline?

Air traffic controllers monitor commercial air planes so they don't collide. I don't think they have time to be lazy.

Id bet money that whatever company does this is indemnified to, except in cases of gross negligence or some such, which by the way you can sue the FAA over currently. Absolutely if one of their air traffic controllers was say high on the job and his actions caused an accident, you could sue him personally and the FAA.

Just wondering if this will lead to private security at airports and do away with government TSA employees? Talking about saving some government money.

This isn't any different than today

Now he needs to privatize the TSA as well.

The biggest win out of all this is the newer technology being implemented causing the standards of separation to be reduced.
ETA and maybe we will start hiring controllers based on merit again.

That would be my next step.
I argue for an active military presence in airports, coupled with private security doing the screening.

Instead of auto wreck ambulance chasers we will see much more of these commercials
edit: also the union argument is a good one. The ATC union boss would be the most powerful person in the country within a decade. If you want to shut down the US just put the ATC on strike and ground all flights

One of my roomies at LaTech was a fired ATC. He went into the Commercial Aviation Program only to get about 1/2 dozen DUI's his senior year. Last time I talked to him he was asking opinions on making a couple of "treetop level" flights to/from South America so he could pay back the student loans for his flight time (he had about $60k in 1985-6 dollars of Student Loans).

Air travelers could be on the hook to cover 20 to 29 percent higher costs if the U.S. moves to a private air traffic control (ATC) organization funded through “user fees,” according to a new study released today by Delta Air Lines.
So people that use the service are going to be charged instead of all the tax payers?
Works for me.

A federal judge could make them fly and they would have to comply

Now, if he ALSO gets rid of TSA checkpoint idiots and replaces it with private industry.....

I'd be willing to bet that this would end up not saving any money though, the idiots in Congress will find somewhere to spend that money.

Yeah...what if they had been unionized airline employees when they went on strike?

Oh, no doubt. We aren't getting a refund. Hell, they will probably try to sign a subsidy bill that increases payments to the airlines.
