It will not matter at all to his die hard base, he has them convinced that skipping a debate because he is scared is alpha.
It will matter a lot to the vast middle that actually votes in primaries.
If no one distinguishes themselves, which can happen given the amount of candidates involved, then it will work out for him.

When it came out the DNC would not hold a debate between RFK and Biden, this board freaked.
Literally, the next day, Trump floated the idea of not debating and the EXACT SAME PEOPLE completely changed their tune.
