There's definitely a big rocky looking sphere up there. It's just not a naturally occurring phenomenon which formed from space dust at the time the Earth was created.

Remember in Genesis, God created Adam first? Then God realized Adam was sad, because he had no partner. So God created Eve.
In the process, he also created the moon, so that Adam could tell Eve that he “loves her to the moon and back”.
So yeah…it makes sense now that man roamed the Earth before the moon was created. God introduced the moon when he introduced woman.
