but it feels short sighted because there are federal laws on the books that protect students within department of educational programs- like students with special needs through the American Disabilities Act and also the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Not an appropriate area for federal involvement. Also, Dept of Ed isn't really in charge of this stuff. They are tasked by Congress to monitor. That's all I'm aware of. Aside from that, they have grants and funding - that's easy, just send the money direct to the states and tell them to figure it out. This stuff is pretty easy to figure out.

So yeah, parental rights doesn’t effectively addresses college students enrolled into sped classes and they have a protected status under federal law.

Specious argument at best. The Dept of Ed has been a disaster for the education of American kids. Close it down. Cry about it if you want. Close it down.

Stop taxing people for education. When there is no money to pay the fruitcakes and commies in education they can go learn to code. Then the states can ask for federal money if state money isn’t enough. Feds can just be very stingy and have pre-reqs to get it.

The department of Ed distributes and monitors those funds. They aren't the department’s funds. Those are tax dollars. Those same funds can be sent directly to states via block grants. Cut out the middle man. Then states wont be strong armed into following all of the stupid shite (costing millions) the DOE requires of them to get the funds.

I can promise you, every state receiving these dollars would prefer the usdoe be removed from the process.

4 words for you, no child left behind. Some kids are just not bright but teachers have to dumb down course requirements and teach to standardized tests. So the teachers I know, are quite excited about the possibility of doing away with the doe.

However did the education system in this country manage before 1979? I doubt anyone will argue that education has improved since 1979?

INFINiTLY better. The Department of Education is a monument to waste , inefficiency and bureaucracy and stands in the way of any meaningful educational reform. You really should familiarize yourself with it and ask yourself why you just blindly accept dismal failure.

Who said he could by waving a wand? Also, everything you posted can easily be overcome. Republicans just need to work together and the far left wackos can’t do a thing to stop them.

What do you mean everything he mentioned can be overcome? I have a son with a disability who is protected by the IDEA of 1972, Civil Rights Act of 1967 (504c), and many other laws that allow him a free and appropriate education.

I am not a proponent of the DOE, it's just not going to be simple. I just hope if/when they do get rid of it, there is a good transition to the States and the the States are aware they must still follow certain federal laws.

I think it can be a good thing, especially with the Chevron case, which means the States simply follow the laws Congress passed and not additional bureaucratic regulations.

The reason I quoted the above poster is that I hope people realize we can't simply remove the DOE or we will create a void for kids with special needs and like during Covid, we lose kids. We still have really good laws on the books that can't be ignored once the DOE is gone.

I’ll sum it up for you.

Shut it down. The states will pick up what programs they wish to have. The tax dollars previously spent here will be eliminated.

Shift the funding to the States so they can actually implement the programs. Fed put regulations of the programs on the States to do, but never funded them like promised. I want my money going to education.

It’s just an agency. A immovable behemoth of bureaucratic inefficiency and incompetence and ideological excess. Jimmy Carter started it in 79, I made it through elementary school just fine without it. It’s been horrible since inception. It’s been in the crosshairs for 40 + years, it’s not like Trump came up with this. It’s gotta go.

Then let’s talk about the IRS.
