Trump's directives emphasize a merit-based system for employees, while limiting the amount of time required before an agency can fire a federal employee.
They also encourage agencies to fire poor-performing employees instead of first suspending them, and direct agencies to limit the amount of time a poor-performing employee is given the chance to show improvement.
"Tenured Federal employees have stolen agency property, run personal businesses from work, and been arrested for using drugs during lunch breaks and not been fired," the White House said in a press release.
“To empower our civil servants to best help others, the government must always operate more efficiently and more securely," Trump said in a statement included in the release.

The orders call for federal workers to devote at least 75 percent of their on-the-clock time to work-related purposes, direct agencies to reward "performance over seniority" and push agencies to renegotiate contracts with unions, among other provisions.

Union officials and experts called the move an effort to decrease the power of federal employees' unions, which protect federal workers from unfair terminations and employment practices. LINK

The fact that this has to be put in a directive is sad.

Great news IMO

It's time to get the people on the tax payer doll to start working for the American people

Wow. Doesn’t seem like it should be necessary to enforce this.

What federal employee is going to be the hammer on this?

None of them.

For this policy to be enacted there are a whole lotta specifics that would have to be listed.

MAGA with worthless EOs.

Worked with military, civil service and contractors during my 20 years on active duty. As a general rule the civil service guys were the worst by far about slacking/trying to get out of work.

The best civil service folks were usually prior military/retired military folks.

I'm sure there will be plenty that are ready to weed out the slackers under their control.

I have an issue with this. Why the hell is it not 95% or above?

He’s basically giving them 1.25 days of the work week to not focus on work-related purposes.

Read article.. the other 25% is for union duties. It should be 0% . Tax payers should not foot the bill for their union work. That should be done after hours and on their own dime.

Hell the union gets free office space in the govt building. That needs to change.

This is good for the tax payers but it doesnt go far enough in some areas.

I have to gi ve a should out to the NASA employees i worked with for 33 years. There was not a harder working, more dedicated crew in existence. At least at the NASA facility in Houston it was balls to the wall all the time. They spent equally as much energy as us contractors did - although they didnt have to put in as much overtime as we did.

But their on-the-clock performance was equal to any private organization I ever saw.

Just goes to show that being paid by the govt doesn't automatically mean being a goof-ball. Those guys were good!!!

Agreed - Unions have no place in government employment. They have the greatest 'enforcer' of working conditions at their backs already.
