Trump guts "US Institute of Peace" group claims they are not part of the Executive Branch

Associated Press LOL
First, all of the NGO's have the most bullshite names: US Institute for Peace, National Endowment for Democracy, National Endowment for Freedom, etc.
Like USAID, which is not an aid or charity organization, it's all smoke and mirrors.
Secondly, this group claims that not only are they not part of the executive branch, but they are a "private" charity. Fully funded by the government, of course.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration fired most of the board of the U.S. Institute of Peace and sent its new leader into the Washington headquarters of the independent organization on Monday, in its latest effort targeting agencies tied to foreign assistance work.
The remaining three members of the group’s board — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Defense University President Peter Garvin — fired President and CEO George Moose on Friday, according to a document obtained by The Associated Press.
An executive order that President Donald Trump signed last month targeted the organization, which was created by Congress over 40 years ago, and others for reductions.
Current USIP employees said staffers from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency entered the building despite protests that the institute is not part of the executive branch. USIP called the police, whose vehicles were outside the building Monday evening.

USIP is a congressionally funded independent nonprofit that works to advance U.S. values in conflict resolution, ending wars and promoting good governance.
Moose vowed legal action, saying that “what has happened here today is an illegal takeover by elements of the executive branch of a private nonprofit.”
He said the institute’s headquarters, located across the street from the State Department, is not a federal building. Speaking to reporters after leaving the building, Moose noted that “it was very clear that there was a desire on the part of the administration to dismantle a lot of what we call foreign assistance, and we are part of that family.”
The DOGE workers gained access after several unsuccessful attempts Monday and after having been turned away Friday, a senior U.S. Institute of Peace official said. The official spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
quote:
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly pointed to USIP’s “noncompliance” with Trump’s order.
After that, “11 board members were lawfully removed, and remaining board members appointed Kenneth Jackson acting president,” she said. “Rogue bureaucrats will not be allowed to hold agencies hostage. The Trump administration will enforce the President’s executive authority and ensure his agencies remain accountable to the American people.”

They stopped trying, you can tell by the names.
Its so obvious youd never expect it.
Like I always say, if you are going to steal, do it right in front of the person.

The United States Institute of Peace building is just steps from the Lincoln Memorial and the Federal Reserve and stands tall among the stately monuments along Constitution Avenue. The palatial structure features a distinctive curved rooftop facade, styled as a dove's drooping wing, that finished construction in 2011 at well over $100 million.
The USIP is every bit the Orwellian D.C. swamp entity. The taxpayer-funded think tank is hardly a bulwark for peace on earth, as the name suggests.
The organization functions mainly as a bureaucratic redoubt of warmongers and advocates for sustained American military intervention abroad. Its leadership in recent years includes Stephen Hadley and Eric Edelman, the senior Bush administration officials involved in the War on Terror. Roger Zakheim, a USIP board member, is a former defense industry lobbyist who has pushed publicly for higher defense budgets and direct U.S. military involvement in Gaza and Iran.
Far from building a lasting peace, much of USIP’s regular work involves hosting American military leaders to discuss the maintenance of U.S. empire. The USIP regularly publishes articles and podcasts on the importance of increased NATO armaments and the need to increase economic sanctions on U.S. adversaries.

My favorite quote in the article.
They even called the police on DOGE.

There seems to be no end to the 'agencies' NGOs, non-profits, etc funded by taxpayers that engage in activities generally against the taxpayer's interests. I suspect when all is revealed we really should have been running budget surpluses for the past fifty years.

I'm not defending this group or what they do or even the need for them to exist at all. We probably shouldn't be spending our tax dollars on them.
I am curious about the legality of the executive branch's authority over a non-governmental organization created and funded by Congress.

It's in the executive branch. There is no such thing as an independent agency.

First, please tell us where the founding fathers wrote of such an entity in the Constitution

I’m more interested in this being called a non-government organization when it was founded and funded by the government.

Just don’t worry about it and take the win. That’s what I keep telling my semi-TDS wife. Simply, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. There’s no question that we, citizens, are better off without this entity existing and we shouldn’t be funding it. Nothing but a win.

funded by Congress.
Then let Congress pay for it -
Congress can 'appropriate money' - but they cannot spend it - only the Executive can write checks on the US treasury.
On the other hand, Executive cannot spend money not approved by congress.
works both ways = separation of powers.
/\ at least this is the way I have always understood it /\
