Hilarious seeing Trump flip flop on TikTok...
He hasn't that I know of. He clearly states in his current statement.. "matter of national security".
That has always been the issue talked about.

Joint venture between -
current or new owners
whereby
US gets 50% ownership and the purchase(r) is some entity the US chooses.
I'm not sure how anyone is supposed to infer anything but US govt ownership here. Hopefully he's not suggesting that, and this is just clumsy wording. With Trump, though, how can you tell?

TikTok crybabies don't give two fricks about national security or Chinese data mining. Stupid idiots calling 911 to cry about TikTok being offline is all you need to know about its users.

Why won’t he just let it die. TikTok, and social media in general, has been awful for the division and mental health in this country.

frick 50%. China needs to sell the whole thing to an independent party. Either that or keep it banned.

Calm down, Nancy. How about you wait for the details to shake out? If yall start all this bs without details again, it’s going to be a long 4 years.

So "Im from the government and I'm here to help" is the stance of the Repubs now
You make people aware of what they are exposing themselves to and leave it up to them to decide.
The only place TikTok should have been outright banned is on any govt employees device.

I feel the U.S. government is a bigger threat to me than the Chinese government.

Im sure it will be, he just said 50/50 because if he said 51 every msm would be questioning it because they are , well, they are the msm.

Republicans nor the founding fathers were ever about no Gov. That's a ridiculous assertion.
No. It's We have to protect the people and national security from a communist nation looking to dominate the world.
not when the issue is national security.
Maybe, but that's opinion.
domestic Tranquility
Peace at home: The absence of riots, rebellions, and other signs of social disorder
Protection from outside enemies: The federal government is responsible for protecting the country from outside threats.
If it's a matter of national security, the gov has an obligation. If it's not, then frick that.

In his first term he sought to ban TikTok in various ways.
Dec 2020
WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge has blocked President Donald Trump’s attempts to ban TikTok, the latest legal defeat for the administration as it tries to wrest the popular app from its Chinese owners.
The Trump administration had tried to ban the short-form video app from smartphone app stores in the U.S. and cut it off from vital technical services. TikTok sued, arguing such actions would violate free speech and due process rights.
Judge Carl Nichols of the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., said in a ruling Monday that the Commerce Department “likely overstepped” its use of presidential emergency powers “and acted in an arbitrary and capricious manner by failing to consider obvious alternatives.”

JP Morgan said there is always "the good reason" and "the real reason".
The good reason....It helped Trump with the younger generation
The real reason.....
Always follow the money, always.

In the pitched battle between TikTok and Washington, few people stand to lose more than Jeff Yass, an American billionaire options trader who has emerged in recent years as a major donor to Republican candidates and causes.
Yass co-founded the Philadelphia-based trading firm Susquehanna International Group, which owns a 15% stake in TikTok’s China-based parent company, ByteDance. Yass’ personal share is 7%, worth roughly $21 billion.

I get you have an issue with comprehension, so I will point it out once more.
NATIONAL SECURITY has always been the issue for Trump and you link does not disprove that.
Now I'm going to provide you the link to Trump's actual EO. Maybe that will register with you:
LINK
Here is a list of KEY WORDS from it if you don't want to read it:
Specifically, the spread in the United States of mobile applications developed and owned by companies in the People’s Republic of China (China) continues to threaten the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.
So to be CLEAR, the issue has always been national security with Trump.

I agree but in order to make sure it's secure I'm ok with it for now. But I'd like to see it mandated that the US sell off 5% per year of their holdings over 10 years and the money go towards the current debt. That way we make sure commies aren't spying and government won't have control of what information being disseminated while paying off some debt. Win for everyone

I'd say American owned companies controlling speech on these platforms is a much larger danger to the American public.
I'd rather chinese spy on me than my own govt.
