Trump Ending Cheap Mail from China

NYT Article
Wow, if this happens. Companies in China can currently ship to US customers for less than US companies can ship to US customers. Their goods are less expensive, and they have a huge advantage over us in shipping prices. The only plus that US companies have been able to offer is shipping time and support after the sale.
If consumers now have to pay normal shipping prices from China, you are going to hear a huge crash rolling across the Pacific. I wouldn't want to be holding stock in any company that benefits directly from this cheap shipping.

Free trade before Trump simply meant protecting American corporations that move manufacturing to China and sell back to the U.S.
True free trade does not require a third party. Whenever a third party is involved it's not free trade. Hell, I don't even have free trade with my local grocery store. I have the pay the man sales tax every time. The only time I have free trade is when I pay cash for services or goods off the books or barter with friends.

Jim Beam actually caused me to order a "Zeiss" scope off of there one night.
I have to say I've been quite impressed with it so far.

There is no trade war and they can't admit it
Beta was on a soapbox last night talking about trade wars with Mexico/Canada/EU etc
They've all bent the knee

This is probably a WAY bigger deal than people want to accept.
Most items shipped from 3rd Party sellers on Amazon fall in the less than 4.4 lbs arena. A large proportion of those quick buy products that are made in China then can easily qualify for the low cost parcel shipping from China, which in turn undercuts the local markets.
Very simply, if it cost more to make the product here, but less to ship it to the destination then the potential for an equilibrium exists. Right now China gets the win on production costs and then their shipping is also subsidized to a point that the only logical lever for a consumer to choose domestic products vs imported Chinese products is either a time constraint or a nationalism viewpoint.
I am not saying only buy American to hurt China, but now you should have a a much closer overall price equilibrium which will help balance out some of these quick buy purchases.

I buy Christmas shite all the time. It drives my wife nuts. I got some little paper Santa hats that go on the rim of a glass, $1 for a dozen. I'm already using them.

Translation: I can't bash Trump on the subject of the US subsidizing Chinese shipments because he's right so I am going to divert to something else.
CelticDog - deliberately, yet ironically, dishonest

Unreal that someone would eat a ban for using the word negro, but people who deliberately try to derail threads with nonsense like this? No problem they get to stay and do their thing.

This is the kind of thing that no reasonable person should be against. Yet the NPCs will all be irate over this.
