This looks like a very minor deal that will be low-hanging fruit for people grasping at straws. Not at all concerned.

Some HuffPo guy has a billion tweet storm up now about how Papadopolous can provide the smoking gun on hillary-emails-for-platform-change collusion. I am very skeptical of this, seems like Mensch-level wishful thinking.

Everybody wants to be the guy who comes out on the other side saying "i called that!!!"

There's basically no penalty for guessing wrong

Mr. Papadopoulos was quietly arrested at Washington Dulles Airport on July 27 and has since been cooperating with the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, records show. Mr. Papadopoulos’s conversation in April raises more questions about a subsequent meeting in June at Trump Tower, where Mr. Trump’s eldest son and senior advisers met with Russians who were similarly promising damaging information on Mrs. Clinton.

"Cooperating" is the key word.

i'm not really experienced in federal-criminal procedures

why was the indictment-plea of Pap unsealed today? was there some timeframe that forced it? i can't imagine that if he was still participating that they'd put it out there into the public like this, although i could be wrong

Seems like best case scenario from the prosecutors perspective is they are using his cooperation to work their way up the chain of command.

On a side note, some of the more out-of-left-field actions of Trump do seem to have a bit more context. For instance, the infamous Comey pledge happened the same day Papadopoulos lies to the FBI. Trump began the firestorm of pardon signals in July when Papadopoulos was arrested and it was indicated to Manafort he may eventually be indicted, and the raid occurred.

Unless you are a full on cultist, it’s hard to rationalize a way Trump didn’t have some knowledge of the going ons of at least some of this stuff, proving that though is another matter entirely.

Wondering if Papadopolous is a cooperating witness now.

Do you or anybody else know if "proactively collaborating" means they wanted him to wear a wire?

considering he couldn't get his emails replied to and the investigation by feds started in January, i don't think a wire would provide anything fruitful

No idea why but I am sure Honest Bob Mueller and his band of Dem donors are doing what's right.

How do you not get that if Putin is trying to get some low level adviser to put him and Trump together, that this CONFIRMS that Trump and Putin weren't in cahoots? If you're already colluding and in bed together, you don't go around begging for meetings.

Oops. Great point.

Why not?

a. it's going to be somewhat overshadowed or at least have to share coverage with Paul Manafort. decreases the "scare"

b. why seal it to then reveal it to scare people 2-3 months later? what i mean is, why seal it in the first place and lose 2-3 months of "scaring"

the indictment doesn't indicate any meeting b/w the actual Trump admin and the Russian agent

the best "smoking gun' is one upper level campaign guy (likely Manafort? Flynn?) telling Papadopolous to make the trip (after like 20 emails)

the trip never happened, per the indictment

i'd imagine if there was more, we'd know by now. the feds seem to have read a lot of emails among the Trump campaign. it seems somebody close to the campaign knew he pled in July, which makes the August story seem like a leak/spin.

the day after Papadopoulos was told about the Russian's hacking emails and having dirt on Clinton, Sessions, Kushner and Trump had their undisclosed encounter with Kislayak at the Mayflower Hotel.

April 26 and 27, 2016.
