If you can't see any problem with the government playing thought police, I can't help you.

I agree Harvard should be able to do whatever the frick they want as a private Institution. And they can do it with their own goddamn money. The only silliness here is Harvard trying to frame it as if Trump was trying to use government power to force them into certain policy. Nope not true at all. He's just telling them that if you're going to do that shite the government isn't going to support it. This is just another one of those situations where Liberals are so comfortable believing things are owed to them that they actually View not getting it as some sort of penalty

Harvard has 22,000 students. They get $2.2B in federal subsidies. By my math, that is $100K per student. How do we justify that?

I know a lot of that is for "research". Does anybody look into whether we are getting any bang for our buck on "research"?

I think more of that money should be going to state universities, which get just a fraction of what Harvard gets.

As far as whether the federal government should determine policy, would it be okay for the administration to cut off funding if Harvard had a "whites only" policy?

The article also cited a $60mm contract. On its face, I do not have a problem with federal contracts going to universities that can provide cutting edge value to the government.

It’s the grants that infuriate me. The irony of East Coast liberals bemoaning economic disparity in this country while supporting federal grants of billions of dollars to elite institutions is astounding

If Harvard wants to do pure research, they have the money to do it. If they want to dole out grant and aid to underprivileged kids, they have the money to do it.

In addition to their endowment, their alumni have probably a trillion dollars of net worth. Especially if you count Zuch, who famously did not graduate, but has donated to Harvard. They can easily raise $500mm per year plus gains on their endowment.

Good. They shouldn’t be getting money from government no matter what. Neither should all the other private schools.

Why was Harvard receiving 2 billion in the first place.

No government — regardless of which party is in power — should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue,” said Alan Garber, Harvard’s president, in a statement to the university on Monday.

Ole Al is only half right.

If you take money from the government, then you need to do what the government says.

If Harvard was truly "private" then he would be absolutely correct.

If Trump were serious he'd redirect that 2 Billion to the Dept of Veteran Affairs for physical and mental health of our combat veterans.

But no one really cares about Veterans, even lord Trump the Great.

It would be an even bigger hit if the Government didn’t back student loans for universities that don’t abide.

And this should absolutely be the case as well.

Hopefully Harvard fails as an institution

How is this good? And how will freezing funding to the school help anyone? Money essential for research and eventual treatment and cure for Alzheimer's, cancer, other chronic diseases. People will die

Harvard can do whatever they want.

They also should get exactly $0 of federal funds.

That should be the final outcome.

The dirty secret about these dirt bag schools is that they are $$$ laundering schemes for the ccp/dnc party.

Their alumni base is worth collective hundreds of billions of $$$.

That doesn't include their endowment funds that is worth yuge OT $$$

BTW, most fowlkes don't know that Harvard, among some of the other Ivy League schools, started out a Christian schools meant to teach future preachers of the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

On queue, the usual democrat suspects are here to defend racism and disguise it as a civil liberties issue.

As a private institution, Harvard may teach what it pleases.

As a private institution, Harvard is in no way entitled to public funding.
