Sure do. Which is why I'm not worried about ending cheap illegal labor.

Both these industries existed before cheap labor, and both will exist after it.

We won't starve. Capitalism puts resources where they are needed. Which do you need more, a daily pumpkin latte or a food in your pantry? We won't sit here holding our iPods and drinking $5 cups of coffee while we starve.

Having said that, there is no magic wand to make 20 million people disappear over night. We will have plenty of time to figure out a way to bring in migrant workers (in a legal way) to replace those that are deported, should we go that route. However, again, nobody is proposing that we send home 20 million illegal immigrants.

I guess you haven't figured out why President Trump is doing this. The answer is that we need immigration reform. President Trump is trying to give the Democrats incentive to come to the table and work out a deal on immigration reform.

Framers, roofers, sheetrock installers, painters all used to be a vast majority non-Hispanic workers. The demand is there for illegal immigrants so they can be paid much less to perform the same jobs. It's a demand being created by business' greed fueled by the desire to ignore the immigration laws in place.

If you need seasonal workers or unskilled labor, put a worker visa program in place that allows the workers to come here, work, and then return home, with no promise of welfare benefits and strict enforcement on immigrants and the businesses that employ them.

This is the part where I hold the Republicans accountable for their share of the immigration problem.

Businesses who employ illegal workers need to be hammered HARD. One, because they're employing illegals, and two, they're paying them under the table and wages well under the market rate.

That's what plantation owners said about slaves. Commerce and industry find a way.

Short term hurt, maybe, but long term it is good for the country. You can't have a welfare state AND open borders - its is unsustainable.

there is a simple solution to the undocumented immigration issue staring us in the face.

extend a 60 day amnesty to all undocumented workers in country now...with proof of employment (employers get amnesty also) a green card is issued and they are placed in the citizenship process.

if you want your wall after that then go for it.
I don’t think most people are being honest about their understanding of the consequences to the economy if all of a sudden that percentage of the skilled labor force were to disappear, much less the very real humanitarian issue

While an admirable thought, Reagan did this in good faith and the dems screwed him and 10 million more illegals have arrived and more than 10 million anchor babies.

i very much support this... not sure how you truly enforce other countries to play their part and/or decentivize corruption within the system, but if they can, then this will help out a lot with illegal immigration

I believe we have a similar deal in place in Mexico. It's why these uninformed frickwits say Obama has deported more than Trump. It's true except that we were dealing with Mexican illegals and not Central Americans claiming refugee status.

The only way I am good with a path to citizenship for illegals is if it is a longer, more drawn out and expensive process than doing it the right way.

$5000 minimum fine for every year in the U.S. illegally MUST be paid in full, plus any and all applicable back taxes, before pathway process can begin.

Once pathway process begins, all taxes for current residence must be paid. Don't file or pay? Only path is back home.

The pathway at that point is the normal naturalization process.

Any felony conviction, though, sends them packing.

We have done this several times and been given pinky promises it will never happen again each and every time.

So all they’re good for is cheap and hard labor?
