I dunno about the whole "hurts image" thing but they should've been done away with a decade ago. We don't need to have someone who looks like they are having a seizure just to satisfy a tiny tiny number of people who can also get a decent enough message with closed captioning. At this point, its just virtue signaling to have them up there.

if they can read ASL, why can't they read closed captioning .

Anywho- most of us have likely seen stories of highly unqualified translators used in government messaging.

I know it shouldn’t be a laughing matter, but these stories always crack me up:

I have **always** wondered that. If you can see one, you can see the other.

I know it is deeply wrong but since the legitimate gestures already are so animated, it often looks like a parody as it is.

That woman from Tampa was especially memorable.

An actual ASL speaker watching the press conference said she knew something was amiss when the imposter started doing exaggerated warm up exercises with her fingers that the ASL speaker had never seen before:

Wasn't this one, or another Florida one, especially egregious as there was bad weather brewing?

I'll take CC, thank you.

virtue signaling and no wants to be the person who suggests they don't need to be up there.

"why do you hate deaf people?" "shouldn't deaf people have the same basic rights as non-deafs?" "why do you want deaf people to die"?

Which, btw, I am expecting to see CNN, CBS, ABC, ect to all interview deaf people who are on the verge of tears because orange man bad.

I would watch it.

Then we'd need a reverse translator.. it'd be fun!

yeah immediately after I wrote that I was wondering how that interview would work.

I'm sure they'll have someone on talking about Trump's "constant attacks" on the disabled.

They are close captioned. The argument is that there can be inaccuracies and delays in closed captioning. I think we’ve all seen those.

Some deaf people are also good at reading lips.

A couple of years ago, there was a rash of signers that got prestigious gigs, and they turned out to be unvetted, total frauds.

he'd like t eliminate all press other than the sycophants...

That’s why he takes questions from the press nearly every other day. If he wanted, he could disappear for months at a time like Sleepy Joe.
