Well, there's not really a 'definition.'
People define it depending on what side of the argument they're on.
Gun owners would probably describe them as being fully automatic weapons while gun control activists would describe them as being any sort of semiautomatic weapon.

Well, you are trying to sound smart but you aren’t. The term assault rifle doesn’t even mean fully automatic. Assault rifle is a completely made up term by the media to make certain guns sound scary.
In rifles there are single shot, lever action, bolt action, semi automatic and fully automatic. They are all just rifles with different means of moving the round into the chamber so it can be fired. One is no more or less deadly than the other on it’s own. It’s up to the shooters use of each weapon to determine what is shot and with what level of accuracy and how many times.

If I understand it, a bolt action takes more time to fire shots than a fully automatic weapon. They do determine how lethal something is in a mass shooting because timing is everything.

you were allowed handguns there as long as they were registered.
you are allowed semi auto rifles but very small magazine capacity. 5 rounds almost making it better to use a lever or bolt action rifle.
AK and AR types have been banned there.
ALost all my stuff would be illegal there. 30 and 40 round box magazines? LOL imagine a drum magazine holding 75 or 100?
SO basically, you can keep what you have but NO MORE buying or selling handguns?

you can't anymore. but once they banned sales of them you think everybody turned in their AK and AR? no. that is why now they want the buyback. because they are still out there. just not sold anymore.
