I don't really like where that could possibly lead, given the existing polarization of the country. This is a very fine line to tread.

That would be my guess as well. He may throw out some loose insinuations and facts every now and then, but I doubt he would claim something like this happened without verifiable evidence. This is an incredibly serious and volatile accusation.

There are questions that have to follow that one. Like, did they pass along any acquired info to the clinton campaign? Did they leak any acquired info to the media? did they use any acquired info to intimidate or threaten members of the Trump election team?

Exactly. This is a potentially very deep and very troubling rabbit hole to explore. Publicly exposing active sedition when half of the public thinks you're the one engaging in foreign-sponsored sedition might lead to a little bit of, uh, unpleasantness.
