That cheese they used to give out was pretty good. But they screwed the pooch and stopped doing that too.

Well, your wording is terrible.
So obviously schools aren't worth a shite.

This.
And I've been told we have the finest military on the planet.

The GI .45 was pretty good, so was the Garand. Didnt develop but made good choices.

The government provides/makes no goods.
It pays private companies to manufacture things, build roads, bridges, airports, etc.
Government only finances with other peoples money.

All of those publicly funded research institutions are a joke, no?

I like the interstate highway system.

Well I don't know about goods produced by the govt, but government-funded technologies and innovations have had a profound impact on the world.

Dude its alot better now that they finished the interstate work in the south part of the city.
Baton Rouge will always have shitty traffic though. THe city has the lowest street connectivity of any city and the public transit blows.

Our military, although not cost efficient in the least, is top notch. And the highway system is nice.

Bad question in the OP. OF course some if the things could be labeled "good". When money is no object, that's gonna happen. The question isn't about can the govt produce something good.

It's better, but it suffers from the original piss poor engineering.
Whomever engineered the original system did the city an extreme disservice and we suffer daily from the mistakes they made.
Starting with the choke point at the I-10/I-110 connection downtown to the location of key entrance and exit ramps we got screwed.
I-110 is good, but other than that the rest is really bad.

I don't believe anyone with a government pension made your peacoat

Your navy peacoat was not produced by the govt. They had to contract out to a private enterprise.
Similarly, the govt does not build highways. Private contractors build highways.
The best answer I can come up with is this..
Bossier Sheriff's farm
This is an example of govt on the parish level producing a good. In fact, the good is produce.

It financed it. Private companies built the equipment and it hired private citizens to fly it.
Eta: and it used money taken from private people to do it.

Haven't the Seabees and Army Corps of Engineers built some decent shite over the years? Other than that, I'm at a loss.
We should be thankful that government relies on private enterprise to fulfill validated requirements.
The contracting process as it currently stands, however, is pretty broken (whole other matter).
